Our thoughts, our prayers, our condolences go out to the Sheriff's deputy's family and all of our law enforcement agents who certainly feel a brotherhood and a sisterhood when something like this takes place.

The identity of the slain deputy has not been released, but officials with the EBRSO say they plan on releasing the deputy's name later on Sunday.

Should the Celtics be wary of Lonzo Ball's dad?
LaVar Ball made headlines recently after he said he was looking for a package shoe deal for his three sons for $1 billion. I suppose LaVar Ball has done a remarkable job turning his sons - and himself, to some degree - into a brand.

The deputy was taken from Ochsner Medical Center shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday with a procession of law enforcement vehicles. East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome was also at the scene, according to reports. Bryan Lee with Louisiana State Police explained. The deputy was conducting an investigation with another deputy when the shooting occurred near Classic Cuts barber shop. The deputy sustained life-threatening injuries.

The shooting is under investigation. The slain cop and suspected gunman were not immediately identified. As of this update, the gunman was being cared for at a separate area hospital.
