On Saturday, Punjab's newly-appointed Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had too made a decision to end hosting banquets at state expense in a bid to end VIP culture in the state. The oath-taking ceremony was held in the presence of PM Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.

Adityanath's anti-Muslim rhetoric has raised concerns among Uttar Pradesh's Muslims, who form almost a fifth of the state's population. When Khan added his voice to a growing chorus of public figures criticizing religious intolerance in India, Adityanath suggested the actor move to Muslim-majority Pakistan and compared Khan to Hafiz Saeed, a militant leader accused of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Some analysts say Mr Modi chose a controversial sectarian as reward for his most ideological followers' crucial grassroots help in the voting.

Further, castigating opposition parties for unnecessarily brewing insecurity amongst the people of the state, BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said rival political outfits have no agenda to focus, hence are politicising such issues. But they have been proven wrong with the nomination of extremist Yogi as the chief minister of UP. The BJP's sweeping win in the Assembly election, and particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh which had been the Samajwadi Party's stronghold, has been fairly credited to him.

Adityanath will be the 21st chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the fourth from the BJP.

The minister, who has won MP elections five times from Gorakhpur, has been caught expressing anti-Muslim comments.

"The mandate is for development, good governance and against caste politics". Behind the rhetoric of development lies the BJP's (and Sangh Parivar's) deeper core agenda of cultural nationalism, which they believe, is gathering more momentum in the country. They failed to take into account his remark, soon after his name was announced, that he and the Government that he will head, would stick to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Sabka saath, sabka vikas formula.

While promising to improve the law and order, the new Chief Minister also said he would create employment opportunities so that the youth would not have to migrate. He studied under the chief priest of Gorakhpur's Gorakhnath Temple, Mahant Avaidyanath, who was also a four-time parliamentarian.

Other than a charge of attempted murder, he faces investigation for creating disharmony between Hindus and Muslims and for insulting Islamic religious places.
