In the 30th anniversary edition of its annual listing of the world's billionaires, Forbes estimates that Trump's fortune has fallen over the past year by $1 billion U.S. to $3.5 billion.

That's because the new Forbes ranking of the world's billionaires says that Trump lost an estimated $200 million of his wealth last year alone and a full billion dollars over the past two years.

The number of billionaires across the world topped 2,000 for the first time ever, with the Asia-Pacific region home to more than anywhere else, 720 to be precise, according to Forbes' annual rich list.

2,043 billionaires made the list this year, 233 more compared to 2016 - the biggest jump in 31 years.

The number of billionaires increased 13 percent compared to 2016, the magazine noted, from 1,810 to 2,043.

Among others on Forbes rich list, Alibaba founder Jack Ma was ranked 23 with estimated wealth of US$28.3 billion.

While campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination in May, Trump's team filed a personal financial disclosure form that said his net worth was more than $10 billion. Buffett now holds a net worth of $77.3 billion and made this year's list at No.2.

Arison, Carnival Corp. chairman ranks fourth on the Florida list with a net worth of $8.1 billion. "In some cases, siblings and couples are listed together if the ownership breakdown among them isn't clear; however, they still must be worth on average a minimum of $1 billion apiece to make the cut", Forbes said in its statement.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos had the greatest rise in riches over the last year with his fortune hitting $72.8bn, a $27.6bn gain on a year ago.

How long until Donald Trump, 70, blasts Forbes' Billionaires list as "fake"? For the second year running France's Liliane Bettencourt, the L'Oreal cosmetics heiress, was the world's wealthiest woman with a $39.5bn net worth.

In Florida, there are 51 billionaires who claim residences in the state. Now he's tied with 19 others, at 544th.
