President Trump's Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney on Sunday defended the administration's budget blueprint for not reducing the federal deficit - despite his past reputation as a deficit hawk member of Congress.
Already, lawmakers have found plenty to dislike: Fiscal conservatives wanted to see cuts to benefit programs, defense hawks want more military spending and Democrats reject the deep cuts to domestic programs. "The National Institutes of Health have always been, for the most part, a bipartisan initiative", Baker said during his monthly radio appearance on WGBH's "Boston Public Radio". NIH funds medical research, including about 300,000 scientists at universities.
"It's not just bad for MA, it's bad for the country", Baker said, calling the NIH proposal "particularly alarming". To address that spending, Congress would need to restructure those programs.
President Donald Trump's proposed budget could eliminate one funding source for a possible expansion of Kansas City's streetcar line.
I look forward to engaging the Congress and enacting this America First Budget. "It's what we might call a suggestion".
"There isn't a town or county in Kansas that doesn't have a problem with a road or a bridge", said Moran, noting that the problem has been exacerbated by the state's budget problems.
Manipur: Ahead of trust vote, BJP, Cong move MLAs to safe houses
The Naga leadership had called it an attack on its tribal lands and cultural integrity protected under the constitution. Naga people's Front (NPF), close to the UNC which supported the blockade, is a part of the BJP government.
The budget also slashes programs that prepare disadvantaged middle and high school students for college. WIC, which was piloted as a supplemental food program back in 1972, provides federal grants to states to assist low-income pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children who are at nutritional risk with supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education. We can't spend money on programs just because they sound good. To make a dent in the national debt, Trump would have to cut entitlement spending.
"We're not spending money on that anymore", Mulvaney said of climate change research.
"Money talks, and Trump's budget proposal screams that the only thing that matters in his America is corporate polluters' profits and Wall Street billionaires", said the Sierra Club's executive director Michael Brune. It proposed sharp spending increases in some areas, coupled with stark cuts in others.
The defense and public safety spending increases in this Budget Blueprint are offset and paid for by finding greater savings and efficiencies across the Federal Government. Beaton said his office receives roughly $65 million from the federal government.
"Overall, funding has to match the increased demand VA has been seeing over the last couple of years", Ilem said.
