Speaking at the event, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri said that by making Yogi Adityanath the CM of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP and its ideological parent the RSS have sent out a clear message that "they want to transform India into a Hindu Rashtra". The BJP has claimed that the people in the state have voted it to power for the promise of security, order and development that the party brings to fore. Apart from Modi, there were BJP national president Amit Shah, party veteran L.K. Advani, Andhra Pradesh chief minister and BJP ally N. Chandrababu Naidu, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and over a dozen Union ministers.

Maurya, the MP from Phulpur in Allahabad, will be the Deputy Chief Minister apart from senior BJP leader and Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma. His family believes that Adityanath would stay away from communal politics.

But officials of Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party said Adityanath, who will take charge on Sunday, was the appropriate leader for the state. Falsely considering Modi being a soft-Hindutva peddler, they assumed that after consolidating Hindutva mass base in UP, he would be moving beyond exclusionary communalism.

On Saturday, Punjab's newly-appointed Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had too chose to end hosting banquets at state expense in a bid to end VIP culture in the state. Moreover, in view of Lok Sabha election in 2019, BJP can not afford to take any wrong decision, said some party insiders when asked about the delay in declaring the CM's name.

Taking a dig at the Opposition, he said they are not able to digest the massive mandate given to the BJP.
