J.C. Penney has announced that its store in the Berkshire Mall will close June 18, an employee told The Eagle on Friday.
Other locations in North Dakota are on the list.
While a financial-rating company recently said the Park City store was among those likely to close, the J.C. Penney in Lancaster wound up surviving.
The company released more details on the closures as well as a complete list of stores nationwide that are closing. In January, Sears announced it was closing its Uniontown store this spring, one of 150 it is closing nationwide. Liquidation is to begin April 17, the company said in a news release. JC Penney is in the process of identifying relocation opportunities within the company for leaders, according to the company. The store was previously downtown before relocating to the mall when it opened in the mid-1980s.
"We believe the relevance of our brick and mortar portfolio will be driven by the implementation of these initiatives consistently to a larger percent of our stores", said Marvin Ellison, chairman and CEO of J.C. Penney. Two other J.C. Penny stores in Louisiana - in DeRidder and in Baton Rouge's Cortana Mall - are also on the list of stores to be closed. This move will affect about 5,000 to 6,000 employees.

The closures will cost about 5,000 people their jobs, JC Penney said Friday.
JC Penney opened in IN in 1980, a year after the mall opened with the three other anchor stores.
The JC Penney store in Red Wing will also close.
The Midland store was remodeled in October 1976, and again in 1984, On Aug. 15, 1990, it was announced J.C. Penney would be one of four anchor stores at Midland Mall.
Two years ago the company announced it was closing almost 40 stores and laying off more than 2,000 employees.
