"I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower", he told reporters at the Capitol, and he said that if Mr. Trump's allegations are taken literally, then "clearly the president was wrong".
"There was no FISA warrant that I'm aware of to tap Trump Tower", Nunes said on "Fox News Sunday" of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
In a statement, Nunes said the committee still had not received information it requested from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency about whether information collected on USA persons was mishandled and leaked to the public.
Schiff said he expects to Comey to also say there is no truth to Trump's statements about Obama, and "I hope we can put an end to this wild goose chase".
The House intelligence committee is to begin hearings Monday into Russia's role in cybersecurity breaches at the Democratic National Committee, as well as President Donald Trump's unsubstantiated claim that his predecessor had authorized a wiretap of Trump Tower.
The head of a U.S. congressional panel investigating allegations of Russian interference with the nation's election says there is no evidence of such accusations. "I'm going to let the tweet speak for itself", he said. The Trump administration has also reiterated those denials.
Still, the shifting explanations of meetings previous year between Trump aides, among them Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Russians, including Moscow's ambassador to the U.S., the fact that the first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, had to resign after not being forthright about such contacts, and the President's own praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin, have kept the speculation alive.
"Up to speed on everything I have up to this morning - no evidence of collusion", he explained.
FIFA suspends Malian Football Federation for Government interference
I and art. 19 of the FIFA Statutes to manage its affairs independently and with no influence from third parties. It also means that none of the federation's members can benefit from the development programs of FIFA or CAF.
"On the question of the Trump campaign conspiring with the Russians here, there is smoke, but there is no fire", Morell said.
The top Democrat on the intelligence committee, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, had a different perspective.
Devin Nunes, the Republican chairman of the USA congressional committee on intelligence, said on Sunday: "Everything I have up to this morning - no evidence of collusion". He drew parallels to Watergate and McCarthyism and said Obama was a "Bad (or sick) guy!" for ordering surveillance of his NY residence - allegations the former president quickly denied through a spokesman.
Some of the fallout has been worldwide in scope: The White House was forced to retract a charge repeated last week by its spokesman Sean Spicer suggesting that Britain's intelligence services aided the Obama administration in the alleged wiretap. The Russian government has denied any wrongdoing. The Texas Republican said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that Trump's accusation is "not necessarily outlandish" and accused the Obama administration of politically motivated behavior, citing the IRS scandal involving applications for tax-exempt status from conservative groups.
Other Republicans believe that Comey's testimony Monday could begin to ease the pressure on the White House over the Russian Federation question.
"There's certainly enough for us to conduct an investigation".
And last week, the Senate intelligence committee announced a March 30 hearing in connection to its investigation into Russian activities during last year's presidential election.
