Australian Prime Minister Urges China to Put Pressure on North Korea

President Donald Trump in Washington and Pence at the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea have signaled a forceful US stance on North Korea's recent actions.

US officials have long speculated that North Korea could soon stage another nuclear test or carry on with missile tests.

"We appreciate the challenging time in which the people of Japan live with increasing provocation across the Sea of Japan".

He said with the aim to "move toward a system that maximizes jobs and growth and brighter future" for the people of both countries, "We will work with you toward that end as we reform KORUS in the days ahead".

US Vice President Mike Pence (L) shakes hands with Japan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Taro Aso (R) following their joint press conference at the prime minister's official residence in Tokyo on Tuesday.

"What am I going to do, start a trade war with China in the middle of him working on a bigger problem frankly with North Korea?"

The U.S. military is contemplating shooting down North Korean missile tests in order to demonstrate its strength to Pyongyang, the Guardian reports.

U.S. is destabilizing the situation on the Korean peninsula and a thermonuclear war may break out in the region at any moment, the North Korean ambassador to the UN, Kim In Ryong told reporters on Monday.

But at the same time, McMaster said on "This Week" on ABC that "it's time for us to undertake all actions we can, short of a military option, to try to resolve this peacefully".

North Korea skipped provocative acts on the founder's birthday, but there is still the possibility of a nuclear or missile test around the 85th anniversary of the KPA's founding which falls on April 25.

North Korea said Monday that it is prepared to conduct frequent missile tests despite warnings from the USA not to do so. President Donald Trump also touted the dispatch, saying the U.S.is sending an "armada" to waters off Korea.

USA experts believe that only China has sufficient economic and political leverage to restrain Pyongyang's drive to develop a long-range missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland with a nuclear warhead.

Planned fiscal stimulus from Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress could pose an "upside risk" to the USA economy, Kansas City Federal Reserve President Esther George says, adding she is not yet forecasting it will materialize.

Pence pointed to Trump's recent strikes on a Syrian airbase and an Islamic State complex in Afghanistan as a warning to Pyongyang not to underestimate the administration's resolve.

Abe said he supported Trump's stance that strategic patience with North Korea had run out, and that all options were on the table.

And when asked what he plans next, President Trump said, "Wait and see".

Those possibilities include defensive exercises or Chinese concerns over North Korea. They also say greater Chinese cooperation is vital. Yet the vice president suggested that the message being delivered from the White House was getting through.

"I will continue having constructive talks with Mr Pence so as to deepen the win-win economic relations between Japan and the USA", he said.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a new appeal Tuesday for calm on the Korean Peninsula.

Washington and Tokyo want to see "concrete results in the near term" regarding improvements in bilateral trade, the two countries said on Tuesday.
