Bannon is at Trump's table -- but slipping further away

Mr. Bannon's closest ally is Stephen Miller, the president's senior adviser for policy and the author of orders to temporarily ban visitors from certain predominantly Muslim countries.

Trump advisers Stephen Bannon and Jared Kushner met on Friday to in an attempt to reconcile their differences and end infighting that has plagued the White House in recent days.

Other administration officials declined to discuss staff relationships, but denied reports that a major staff shake-up is imminent.

The New York Times reported that Bannon simply could not compromise with Kushner on anything because the latter is a member of the Democratic Party.

A source within the White House said that the reason Bannon is falling out of favor with Trump is quite simple: "Bannon isn't making "Dad" look good".

However, a person familiar with the matter told Business Insider in March that Bannon at the time had instructed Matthew Boyle, the website's Washington editor, to stop publishing articles critical of Priebus, who reports said had been feuding with Bannon.

While Bannon's office contains a board that lists what he believes represent Trump's core populist promises, Kushner has pushed against them with a centrist perspective that has caused Bannon to call him a "Democrat".

The other two people killed amid Wednesday's demonstrations included a teenager who was heading to a soccer match with friends. As tensions mount, the government is using its almost-complete control of Venezuela's institutions to pursue its opponents.

And when the White House released a photo of Trump being briefed after the strikes, Twitter was quick to notice that Bannon didn't have a seat at the table.

In an effort to kill headlines like these, reporting power struggles and name-calling between two of Trump's top White House advisors - on Friday, Jared Kushner and Steve Bannon had themselves a good talking to.

Earlier in Trump's administration, news coverage focused on possible tension between Bannon and Priebus, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Tom Bossert, the assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, also had his role downgraded as part of the changes.

In addition to getting booted from the National Security Council, rumor has it that Steve Bannon, along with one-time rival Reince Priebus, might get evicted from the White House altogether.

Two top aides to President Trump held a peace negotiation session this weekend to try and mend a rift that triggered speculation about a White House staff shakeup, officials said Saturday.

"I think we've had one of the most successful 13 weeks in the history of the presidency", he said.
