Bill O'Reilly loses job at Fox News amid harassment allegations

TV One's Roland Martin gave Bill O'Reilly an overdose of his own medicine Wednesday, showing no mercy in the wake of O'Reilly's forced departure from Fox News.

Late a year ago the head of Fox News Roger Ailes was sacked for sexual harassment of female staff.

It was a stunning fall from grace for one of the biggest United States media names, a veteran broadcaster at Fox News for two decades, who counted President Donald Trump among his personal supporters and whose ratings had soared regardless of alleged abusive behavior towards women dating back years.

Although ratings remained strong for "The O'Reilly Factor", the Murdoch family was under growing pressure to act quickly to address a mounting scandal within the company and a backlash from advertisers.

It also demonstrates the growing influence Lachlan and James Murdoch, no fans of O'Reilly's style of television, now have inside the 21 Century Fox organisation.

"Half of the fun that they have with their audiences comes from watching the outrage that they manage to provoke".

Less than 10 months later, two of the most powerful men in media, Roger Ailes and Bill O'Reilly, have been knocked off lofty perches at Fox News.

"Tucker Carlson Tonight" will take over O'Reilly's 8 p.m. time slot. On average, the show drew almost four million viewers per night, making it one of the most popular cable news shows in America.

She says when she refused his request to go to his hotel room O'Reilly abused her and then told her she could forget about every appearing on his show.

After a thorough and careful review of allegations against him, the Company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that Mr. O'Reilly will not return to the Fox News Channel. In preparing their article, reporters for the New York Times had sent Fox's executives a long list of questions, placing senior executives on alert months in advance of its publication.

Wall Street's Charging Bull sculptor wants Fearless Girl statue removed
Eventually, the city gave in to the public requesting the artwork to remain in the Financial District close to Wall Street. Siegel said he hopes the dispute can be resolved amicably but added, "We never dismiss the possibility of litigation".

One young producer, Rachel Witlieb Bernstein, was allegedly screamed at by O'Reilly in the newsroom; she left with a payout and a confidentiality agreement, though no sexual harassment was alleged.

As we reported last week, an independent analysis by the ad-tracking firm iSpot.tv showed O'Reilly's program had lost about half its advertisers in a span of several weeks due to the allegations.

She said O'Reilly "got Margaret's name wrong and Margaret said, 'Hey, get my name right.' And he said, 'Oh, I'm sorry there's a lot of blonds in this operation, I can't keep you all straight, Megyn Kelly is coming up.' He starts throwing all these blonde names".

But the reality is that O'Reilly's fall does not signal the dawn of a more enlightened view on sexual discrimination, says Carine Mardorossian, author of Framing the Rape Victim: Gender and Agency Reconsidered.

He added: 'I will always look back on my time at Fox with great pride in the unprecedented success we achieved and with my deepest gratitude to all my dedicated viewers.

Greene said O'Reilly then told her that while she might want to "break his bank" with the restaurant choice, he "was more interested in breaking my back". Fox News' Dana Perino sat in on Wednesday night.

His show generated 178 million dollars (£140m) in advertising revenue in 2015, according to Kantar Media.

"No, no, no. By ratings standards, he is", Colbert said.

He's the Big Kahuna the obscenely named "Resistance" (hey, you idiots, that was about Auschwitz, not tax reform) is after and Bill was only a stop along the way.
