Borussia Dortmund treated 'like animals' after bomb attack

Explosions on Tuesday near Dortmund's bus wounded a player and a police officer as they headed to a Champions League match

German World Cup victor Lothar Matthaus has branded UEFA's decision to stage the Borussia Dortmund-Monaco Champions League match 24 hours after a bomb attack on the Dortmund team bus as "incomprehensible".

Tuchel said the players must find a way to go on again on Saturday for Eintracht's visit in the Bundesliga.

He had had his replica Monaco shirt freshly printed with the name of Marc Bartra, the Dortmund defender injured in the blasts that hit the Borussia's team bus, shattering the vehicle's windows.

Three explosions went off near a bus carrying Borussia Dortmund players as it was on its way to a home match against Monaco in the Champions League.

The decision to play the match so quickly after the attacks has prompted some criticism, with manager Thomas Tuchel suggesting UEFA made the team feel "impotent" by swiftly rearranging the fixture, per Mark Dobson of the Guardian.

"We were informed by text message that UEFA had made this decision", Tuchel said on Wednesday. I've always been told that when I get the ball, something has to happen.

"We would have wanted to have more time to digest all of this".

"We've sold hundreds of scarves and jerseys since this morning, and it's nearly only the French who've been buying", said Sultan Karakas, who was manning the boutique's till.

The German tried to contact his old team and was relieved when it emerged there were no fatalities, with Dortmund defender Marc Bartra needing surgery on a wrist injury as a result of the attack. We did not get this time.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel stressed that it wasn't easy for his players to mentally regroup to play the match after being targeted by a terrorist attack. I know exactly where it is on that road and a lot of my friends were on the bus.

But Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said Tuesday that a congested calendar meant there was little option for postponing the game further.

'The only thing I ask, THE ONLY THING, is that we ALL live in peace and leave wars behind'.

Klopp was clearly shaken by the incident having spent so long at Dortmund and been a big figure while he was in charge there.

"The Dortmund players spoke beautifully after the game", added Caulfield, who has worked as a sports psychologist with clubs in the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.

"We're playing for everyone".
