Chaffetz may not finish US House term: Media reports

Since late 2003 I have been fully engaged with politics as a campaign manager, a chief of staff, a candidate and as a Member of Congress. And, by leaving his representative post early, it gives him some time to step away from the public eye.

"I may run again for public office, but not in 2018", he wrote.

Or maybe it's something that has nothing to do with any of that!

Back in early 2016, Chaffetz told the Deseret News that he was keeping a very close eye on the state's governorship.

Chaffetz faced more than 1,000 protesters at a town hall in February in his Utah district.

The reasons go beyond the recent questions about his role as the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is tasked with keeping a check on fraud and waste in the White House and the federal government. Other than a six-year period when conservative Democrat Bill Orton represented it from 1991 to 1997, the Third District has been reliably Republican since its creation in 1982. Speculation, on Wednesday, ran the gamut from a burgeoning ethics investigation that might have landed Chaffetz in the Congressional doghouse, to a possible run for governor.

Ohio Rep. Steve Stivers, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, commended Chaffetz's service and said he was confident Republicans could keep the 3rd District red.

Ottawa had Marc Methot back in the lineup for the first time since suffering a laceration to his pinky finger March 23. The Senators know they've won nothing yet and there's lots of work to be done if they're going to win this series .

Prior to joining FCW, Gunter reported for the C-Ville Weekly in Charlottesville, Va., and served as a college sports beat writer for the South Boston (Va.) News and Record. However, he has been confronted with an unexpected challenge from Democratic newcomer Kathryn Allen. Donald Trump won the district by 24 points but only got 47% of the vote, in part because Evan McMullin ran an independent campaign focused nearly entirely on Utah.

But as Trump appeared to weather that storm and was competitive with Clinton in the homestretch to the November 8 election, Chaffetz moderated his criticism of the NY real estate developer.

Unlike Chaffetz, small donors provided most of the Allen's money for the 2018 race.

"Chairman Chaffetz' behavior has always been beneath the dignity of the office he holds and he should step down as Chairman of the Oversight Committee immediately", said Tyler Law, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman.

Jason Chaffetz insisted Thursday his surprise exit from Washington - which he now says may happen in the next few months rather than after 2018 - isn't a quick escape from a lurking scandal.

Chaffetz, 50, was elected to the House in 2008.
