Japan urges 'peace, pressure' in North Korea row

The loss of U.S. participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership was a blow to Japan following strenuous negotiations, especially over opening its long-protected farm sector to more imports, especially of dairy and meat products.

While Japan's trade surplus with the U.S.is much smaller than China's, Trump has decried the imbalance, especially in auto exports. "As the president says, it's time for them to behave, to listen to the world community, to set aside their nuclear ambitions, their ballistic missile ambitions and be willing to join the family of nations", Pence said on CNN. He promised to overhaul trade agreements that he said hurt U.S.jobs.

Mr Pence's comments, delivered in Japan, came a day after he spoke in South Korea where he said the "the era of strategic patience is over", a comment that was widely seen as hinting at USA military action.

Pence, his wife Karen and two daughters walked inside the main hall of colorful Senso-ji temple Tuesday as incense burned.

But Wu had not been able to confirm plans to visit North Korea, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted a diplomatic source as saying: "I understand the Chinese side is asking, but the North is not replying". It is his first trip to Asia as vice president.

For over a decade, Wu led Beijing's mostly fruitless efforts to denuclearise the Korean peninsula under so-called six party talks between China, the United States, North and South Korea, Japan and Russian Federation.

The first is the claim - much favored by analysts in China - that the biggest problem is how to tame a trigger-happy US, which neither understands nor cares about North Korea's historic fears. All-out war would ensue if the United States took military action, he said.

Pence's comments come just days after South Korea, the U.S.'s sixth-largest trading partner, avoided being tagged a currency manipulator by the U.S. Treasury, though it remains on a watch list of nations deemed at risk of engaging in unfair conduct.

Japan and the US have outlined a path forward for economic talks between the countries.

Pence's meeting in Seoul with business leaders comes before he heads to Tokyo later on Tuesday, where he will meet Japan's Finance Minister Taro Aso and kick off talks that Washington hopes will open doors for US-made products.

Turkey: Election board rejects referendum appeals
The protesters on Wednesday evening chanted "Thief, Murderer, Erdogan" and "Don't be silent, shout out, "no" to the presidency". From the German government's point of view, Turkey must. clear up the questions that have been raised".

"President Trump is playing a very unsafe game indeed". Last month, Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Joo Hyung-hwan visited Washington and met with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in a bid to highlight the pact's mutual benefits.

The report said that US goods and services exports increased overall, with services exports reaching $20.5 billion, up 23.1 percent compared to pre-FTA levels.

On Monday, Mr Pence travelled to the tense Demilitarised Zone dividing North and South Korea, where he warned North Korea's leaders that after years of testing the United States and South Korea with its nuclear ambitions, "the era of strategic patience is over".

The concerns were exacerbated after a North Korean missile exploded during launch on Sunday, U.S. and South Korean officials said.

At a meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in Seoul, Pence said since the two countries' trade agreement took effect five years ago, the US' deficit has more than doubled, calling it the "most concerning fact".

"At the same time, dialog for the sake of dialog is valueless and (it) is necessary for us to exercise pressure", he added, however.

Pence was having lunch with Abe at the prime minister's official residence after arriving in Japan earlier in the day for the second stop of a 10-day Asia tour.

His plane touched down Tuesday at the US military's Atsugi base outside Tokyo.

The focus of his trip is expected to shift in Japan to trade.

No one can be complacent about the potential threat posed by the missiles being developed by North Korea, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said on Tuesday.
