Pence says U.S. stands by ally Japan on North Korea problem

Now in a recent interview with the BBC a senior North Korean official has said that they plan on continuing their intercontinental ballistic missile program in the hope of developing a weapon that can actually hit something other than their own countryside.

"Today we are beginning a process of economic dialogue, the end of which may result in bilateral trade negotiations in the future", Pence told a news conference with Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso, his counterpart at Tuesday's talks.

"But at the same time", the prime minister said, "dialogue for the sake of dialogue is valueless and it is necessary for us to exercise pressure North Korea so that it comes forward and engages in this serious dialogue".

Trump says the US wants peace and he hopes North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un wants peace.

"It will instead seek a bilateral deal with Japan which it hopes will give United States companies better access to its market". Pence urged the business community to help "level that playing field" between Korea and the United States.

Yet the vice president suggested that the message being delivered from the White House was getting through.

Either way, China is not just a mere observer or umpire at this lethal ping-pong match between the USA and North Korea.

In South Korea on the first leg of an Asian tour, Pence on Monday visited the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas and warned Pyongyang against further provocations, saying "all options are on the table". But Pence expressed impatience with the unwillingness of the regime to move toward ridding itself of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

Campaigning begins as MPs vote for snap General Election
Downing Street said the June election will not affect May's Brexit timetable. "But of course those people don't want us to win". He said Mrs May's U-turn on her previous insistence that she would not call a snap election showed she could not be trusted.

The report said that US goods and services exports increased overall, with services exports reaching $20.5 billion, up 23.1 percent compared to pre-FTA levels.

Planned fiscal stimulus from Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress could pose an "upside risk" to the US economy, Kansas City Federal Reserve President Esther George says, adding she is not yet forecasting it will materialize. The term "reckless" is one the North Koreans have used to describe ongoing large-scale USA and South Korean military exercises, which the North calls a dress rehearsal for an invasion. He did not comment on what might have caused the missile to fail.

Trump congratulates Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on his referendum campaign in a phone call and vows close cooperation on Syria, Iraq and the fight against Kurdish militants, Turkish presidential sources say.

His national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, said the USA would rely on its allies as well as Chinese leadership to resolve the issues with North Korea.

The concerns were exacerbated after a North Korean missile exploded during launch on Sunday, U.S. and South Korean officials said.

In recent months North Korea has refused to buckle to worldwide pressure and continued to develop both its nuclear and test missiles.

Meanwhile, China made a plea for a return to negotiations. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said tensions need to be eased on the Korean Peninsula to bring the escalating dispute there to a peaceful resolution.
