Samsung's first phone with 6GB RAM launched at P27,990

On Thursday, April 6, Samsung shared that it expects its overall operating profit to touch 9.9 trillion won (approximately $8.8 billion) in Q1 2017.

Earlier in the day, Samsung estimated the January-March period will produce its best quarterly profit in more than three years, beating expectations and putting it on track for record annual earnings on the back of a memory chip super-cycle. Samsung Electronics said Friday, April 7, 2017 its first-quarter profit jumped 48 percent likely due to smartphone component s. The S8 was its first major smartphone launch since the fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

The South Korean firm's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone was plagued with problems.

Despite the problems with the exploding Galaxy Note 7, concerns may not have been as intense as originally though, a Reuters and Ipsos study found that 26% of American consumers would purchase a Samsung phone whilst 23% said that they would not.

Samsung's sales are reported to account for up to one-fifth of South Korea's GDP.

'SNL' gets Trump and O'Reilly just right
The women who accepted settlements from O'Reilly and Fox News agreed to remain silent on the matter. O'Reilly then thanked Trump for his support, which the president said was based on a hunch.

In court, Lee listened as prosecutors accused him of bribing Park and her confidant, Choi Soon-sil, in order to win support for a key merger that would cement his leadership of the sprawling Samsung business empire.

While some companies have been struggling financially for quite a bit now, Samsung has been able to hold strong over the last couple of years. The announcement comes after the company struggled with the global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 and a political scandal involving the company's Vice Chairman Jay Y. Lee. He added that sales of mid-to-low tier smartphones also helped the mobile business remain profitable.

Samsung's vice-chairman and de facto leader was arrested in February on charges of bribery and embezzlement in connection with the furore surrounding the ousting of former South Korean President, Park Geun-Hye.

Lee, who was arrested in February, has been charged with paying almost $40 million to the now-impeached president's close friend Choi Soon-Sil, allegedly as bribes to secure policy favours. He denies any wrongdoing.
