Soccer fans electrocuted watching match

Channels TV reports that about 30 football fans died in Calabar after a high tension cable fell on a viewing centre, leading to their electrocution on Thursday night.

The fans had been watching Manchester United's Europa League quarterfinal second leg match at a viewing centre in Nigeria.

United have sent their sympathies to those caught up in the tragedy, with the incident casting a shadow over a 2-1 extra-time victory for Jose Mourinho's side at Old Trafford.

"Until this morning we have about seven persons dead, we have 10 that have been admitted to hospital and another one in intensive care".

Police said a cable had fallen on the crowd at a viewing centre, after a problem with the centre's electrical transformer. Come to think of it, I have DStv at home but I enjoy watching matches at viewing centres. I wish I didn't come out to watch the match.

Democrats Turn on Ossoff
The election is being held to fill the seat previously held by Tom Price , who is now the secretary of health and human services. President Donald Trump said he was "glad to be of help" after a Democrat failed to win 50% of the vote in a Georgia election.

State governor Ben Ayade said: "The incident marks a dark chapter in the life of the state where the precious lives of football lovers have been lost".

Manchester United has responded by tweeting its condolences to the victims and their families.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported that Marcus Rashford netted the winning goal for the Red Devils in the 107th minute to take them into the semi-final.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari said he was "shocked and saddened" by the deaths.

In the statement, the President commiserated with the government and people of Cross River State, and football fans nationwide over the incident.
