Trump orders review of visa program for highly skilled workers

The US president added that the visa program to bring in the best of the global workforce "should include only the most skilled and highest-paid applicants and should never ever be used to replace American workers".

President Donald Trump- hammering his "America First" campaign theme after recent policy flip-flops that have infuriated his populist base - signed an executive order on Tuesday authorizing studies and tweaks in government rules that could lead to restrictions on foreign technical workers.

Trump's executive order is created to clamp down on guest worker visas and require agencies to buy more goods and services from USA companies and workers.

"We are finally standing up for our workers and our companies", Trump said.

Mr. Trump has used the visa program to hire foreign workers at his properties for many years. It urges these departments to propose reforms to ensure H-1B visas are awarded to the most skilled or highest paid applicant, reported Reuters.

Jamie Vardy pulled one back for the home side during a sensational second-half performance, but it wasn't enough. Their exit brings to an end a golden adventure sparked by last season s stunning Premier League title win.

Trump has said he would like to reform the United States immigration system, including the H1-B visas, but has so far focused most of his attention on cracking down on illegal immigration, with greater immigration enforcement and a proposed border wall with Mexico. Department of Homeland Security officials said they will require that programmers applying for these visas provide evidence the work they're doing is highly specialized and complex.

He said that cutting regulations and getting tax reform are important, but even more critical is Trump's "America first" rhetoric.

In recent years, the demand for H-1B visa has far exceeded the total number of 85,000 available. Under the current system, applications are then randomly selected in a lottery system. The new order poses particular problems for India, which sends the maximum H-1B workers to the US. "Currently, companies routinely abuse the H-1B visa programme by replacing American workers with lower paid foreign workers", it said. "They should never, ever be used to replace Americans".

"No one can compete with American workers when they're given a fair and level playing field, which has not happened for decades". Which is very different than I think how most people think of the H-1B program.

On H-1B, which would be of immediate concern to Indians, the order said it would be policy of the administration to rigorously enforce and administer laws regarding foreign workers "in order to create higher wages and employment rates for workers in the United States, and to protect their economic interests".
