UPDATED 3 storey building Collapses in Lagos 14 persons rescued

It was gathered that the workers and artisans were spread on the first, second and third floors of the building when it collapsed on them.

A building collapse involving a three-storey building under construction in the Ilasa area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, occurred on Thursday, and many people are feared trapped in the debris.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Adesina Tiamiyu confirmed that three dead bodies had so far been evacuated from the building.

Some of the rescued labourers and artisans were treated by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

"Meanwhile, others with serious injuries were rushed to the hospital".

NEMA's Public Information Officer, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, made the confirmation at the site of the collapsed building at 2/4, Richard Abimbola Str., Ilasamaja, in Isolo, Lagos.

Spokesperson, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye said that the rescue operation was nearly getting to ground zero. "Extraction of trapped victims is ongoing and no mortality recorded at the moment".

Around 5pm, the National Emergency Management Agency said 16 people had been rescued from the rubble of the building.

The emergency workers have cordoned off the area and are evacuating the injured to the Ilesa General Hospital.
