Google's education app Expeditions is getting a new AR mode

Microsoft and Google have been very public with their projects, while there are rumors that Apple is secretly working on both AR and VR too. Earlier today at Google I/O, ASUS announced that the upcoming ZenFone AR smartphone - compatible with both Tango and Daydream - will be a Verizon exclusive. Tango AR is Google's augmented reality system using sensors and computer-vision software and Daydream is the mobile virtual reality platform for Android devices. The New Jersey-based wireless carrier will start selling the ASUS ZenFone AR this summer, the company revealed, without providing a specific release date that will presumably be revealed in the coming weeks. This allows application developers to create AR experiences that include indoor navigation, 3D mapping, and environmental recognition, among other augmented reality applications. There's 6GB of RAM on board, along with 128GB of built-in storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor to keep everything humming along.

'Seattle's son' Chris Cornell mourned in city
Cornell was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden on a United States tour that kicked off last month. Soundgarden's current tour kicked off in late April and had been due to run until 27 May.

As a reminder the Asus ZenFone AR comes with a 5.7 inch display with a WQHD resolution and it comes has 8GB of RAM and a 23 megapixel camera. Consumers didn't warm up to Lenovo's Phab2 Pro past year; therefore, it could've been possible for the ZenFone AR to be a Tango-ready device that consumers actually care about. However, all this is set to change in the months to come thanks to ASUS. The rear camera supports 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilisation) as well as 3-axis EIS (electronic image stabilisation) for video recording alongside support for 4K video recording.
