At Least 2 Dead, Dozens Injured After Tornadoes Hit Wisconsin, Oklahoma

Authorities say at least one person was hurt when a tornado touched down in central Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, almost 300 preliminary severe weather reports filed in from Wisconsin to Texas, spanning Tuesday afternoon to early Wednesday.

A farm was damaged after it was hit by a possible tornado near Seiling, Oklahoma, KJRH reports.

Severe storms are likely throughout Kansas and Oklahoma. No details were immediately available about the person who was hurt there.

The National Weather Service reported a tornado touchdown in the area just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Assessment crews were headed out Wednesday to determine the extent of the damage.

"There was a little voice in my head that said we need to leave, and we got out just in time", said Dale Dailey, who lives in the area where the tornado hit.

Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin said community members also were pitching in. "We estimate that more than 100 homes have been severely damaged or destroyed".

Cattle have been killed, but he says he has no immediate reports of human injuries. Fifty-three-year-old Bo Mikles was killed as he was apparently fleeing his home when his vehicle was thrown several hundred feet.

In a well-constructed home, an EF-2 tornado might cause roof damage or partial loss of a roof.

All severe modes are possible including strong tornadoes, baseball size hail and damaging winds exceeding 80 miles per hour.

He says hail larger than softballs fell Tuesday.

First responders searched through the rubble overnight.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting those who lost their homes. The storm struck about 7:15 p.m. a subdivision south of Elk City, Oklahoma, almost 110 miles west of Oklahoma City.

"We thought we were going to be digging for people here for days", Fitzgerald said.

Two people have died and dozens are injured after tornadoes flattened a mobile home park in Wisconsin and a housing subdivision in Oklahoma during powerful spring storms that battered an area from the South Plains of Texas to the Great Lakes.

Home after home was gutted by intense winds, tree tops were stripped clean and memories were spread out all over the ground of the Prairie Lake Estates mobile home park.
