Birthplace of grunge mourns 'Seattle's son' Chris Cornell

His voice signaled great urgency and tremendous physicality - which makes the 52-year-old singer's suicide, mere hours after a high-spirited Soundgarden concert in Detroit on Wednesday, such a surprise. Chris's rep, Brian Bumbery, said in a statement to the Associated Press that Chris's death was "sudden and unexpected", adding that his family will be "working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause".

Cornell was on tour and performed Wednesday night in Detroit with Soundgarden. This friend then found Cornell unresponsive on the apartment's bathroom floor with a band around his neck and dialled 911 accordingly.

The death of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog frontman Chris Cornell has been ruled as suicide by hanging by a medical examiner.

Fellow Seattleite Kurt Cobain was eventually the bigger star, the vanguard of a new cultural era that no one saw coming.

Cornell was known for a almost four-octave vocal range. "In the long run, it's positive because it's not imitative, but it was negative because it wasn't unanimously accepted at the time".

He hopped online and learned the former lead singer of Soundgarden had been found dead. Grunge drew from the intellectual, energized ambitions of punk and the apolitical, raging attitude of heavy metal.

In a 1994 interview with Rolling Stone, Cornell said he had used drugs daily from age 13.

Cornell was pronounced dead in the room. He talked about suffering from depression and once called himself a "pioneer" of the OxyContin abuse epidemic.

New death in Venezuela puts toll at level of 2014 unrest
Maduro's government accused the protesters of seeking a violent coup and says many of them are no more than "terrorists". Police have fired tear gas and protesters have hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails in near-daily clashes.

Success, including multiple hit singles such as "Spoonman", brought tension to the band over artistic direction.

Trumbo has followed Cornell's career since the early 1990's.

With Audioslave, Cornell took a leftist political slant and the band in 2005 became the first USA rockers to play a major concert in Cuba.

Audioslave disbanded in 2007, but Cornell and Soundgarden reunited in 2012 and released the band's sixth studio album, King Animal, in 2012. He regrouped with Soundgarden three years later and maintained a steady flow of album releases and an global touring schedule.

Cornell, 52, was born Christopher John Boyle on July 24, 1964, in Seattle. He once said the breakup grew so caustic that it took him four years to gain access to his own guitar collection.

Cornell is survived by three children. He had homes in Los Angeles and Paris and, according to the Guardian, was involved in running a restaurant in the City of Lights that served such incongruous dishes as peanut butter sole.

"There was a time when I dove into one of the bays at night and there was a full-on pipe, a few feet in diameter and I was eight feet under and it was dark", he told the Herald Sun two years ago. "It's good for me to be involved in different things".
