Alessandro Molon, a Brazilian politician and member of the Sustainability Network, has presented an impeachment request for Michel Temer. However, top federal prosecutor Rodrigo Janot has said that under Brazilian law, Temer can not be investigated for crimes committed before he became president until he leaves office.

"I will not resign". The president's office admitted the meeting took place but denied Mr Temer sought to buy Mr Cunha's silence. The columnist who reported the bombshell claims clarified today that he had not personally heard the recording but had had it described to him "in the most detail possible".

The Guardian newspaper reported that the tape surfaced as part of a plea bargain agreement with brothers Joesley and Wesley Batista, who run JBS, Brazil's biggest meat-packing company.

The O Globo report also details other improprieties by Brazilian businessmen and politicians.

President Michel Temer has improved economic headlines, for example pushing inflation below 4.5 pct.

An exchange-traded fund tracking Brazil's benchmark Bovespa stock index fell more than 8 percent in Tokyo, while American depositary receipts for Petrobras fell as much as 11 percent in after-hours NY trading as investors ditched Brazilian assets at the sight of more political turmoil.

Representatives for the congressman said he would clarify the matter when he returned on Thursday from a trip to NY.

Globo did not release the recording or say how it was obtained. Without much-needed fiscal changes, particularly to the government pension program, investors will lose confidence and the central bank will have a hard time supporting the country.

"I know what I did, and I know my actions were right", he said.

The news that Temer might have been compromised in tape was the latest episode of the Brazilian political drama.

Only one Spurs player shows up in Game 2 beatdown by Warriors
And he'll probably get a lot more minutes down the stretch of this series, and he hopefully can continue to do the same". The veteran big man was working out on a stationary bike when the media was allowed into the team's practice facilty.

The crisis underscored the extent to which Brazil's political agenda is being dictated by an increasingly fearless generation of corruption-fighting police and prosecutors.

Brazilian President Michel Temer denies all wrongdoing.

Temer, 76, now faces two immediate problems.

According to the report, Batista secretly recorded the conversation where Temer is heard telling him to bribe Eduardo Cunha, the former president of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil, who orchestrated Dilma Rousseff's impeachment and is now serving a 15-year jail term for his involvement in a corruption scam.

Cunha is in prison after having been found guilty of taking millions of dollars in bribes in Brazil's giant Petrobras oil company embezzlement scandal.

Globo also reported that Sen.

Temer is alleged to have talked with Joesley about cash payments to Eduardo Cunha, the former speaker of the House who has been jailed for his role in the sprawling Petrobras corruption scandal.

Executives from the Odebrecht construction group have said in plea bargain testimony that they made 300 million reais ($97 million) in illegal campaign contributions to Rousseff's 2014 re-election campaign, which Rousseff strongly denies.

Protests are planned in several cities and opposition politicians took to Twitter and local news channels to call for Mr Temer to be impeached, arguing his government no longer has legitimacy.

Zarattini added, "We will not accept that the issue of succession of this government is solved with indirect elections".
