Bush, Obama Lawyers Slam Trump's Possible Meddling In FBI Russia Probe

A memo reportedly penned by Comey after a February meeting with Trump suggested the president had asked him to halt a probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation.

"When the president abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey, the timing was 'troubling, ' multiple Republican lawmakers agreed", the report said. "While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn", a White House statement said. There was also the now-infamous dinner in which Trump asked Comey to stop investigating Michael Flynn, which the FBI Director refused to do. When Trump spotted Comey anyway, the Federal Bureau of Investigation director extended his hand so that they would only have a handshake, but the president pulled him in for a hug anyway. Claire McCaskill, after a Senate meeting with Rosenstein, said Rosenstein was aware Comey would be fired before writing the memo justifying Comey's firing.

On Wednesday, a special counsel was appointed by the Department of Justice to oversee the investigation. Now, The Daily Beast is reporting that despite Flynn's current legal quagmire, Trump would like to bring the general back to the White House.

Curbelo urged the creation of a select committee to investigate possible ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

The FBI's reputation, he said, had been damaged during the presidential campaign, given "what happened with respect to the Clinton campaign. Believe me. My total priority is the United States of America", Trump said.

Senators: Deputy AG knew of Comey firing before writing memo
Following Rosenstein's testimony, a number of Senators came out to take about what happened in the closed-door meeting. The White House pointed to Rosenstein's memo last week as justification for Trump's abrupt decision to dismiss Comey.

On the subject of the allegations - started in July 2016 by the Hillary Clinton campaign and embraced by Democrats and some of the media since her surprise defeat in November - that he and his campaign colluded with Russia, Trump said that "the entire thing has been a witch hunt".

Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro told MSNBC's Chris Hayes that if the reports about Comey's memo are true, then Trump obstructed justice and impeachment would be warranted.

"Ditto the president's reported disclosure of highly classified intelligence to Russian officials during an Oval Office meeting", the report said, naming names of those Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen.

"I know Congressman Green to be a thoughtful, principled man, one who chooses his words carefully and doesn't shoot from the hip on important issues such as the defense of our democracy. Because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side, that were saying such bad things about director Comey", he said. "I hope you can let this go".

Trump will carry that baggage on his first overseas trip as president.
