Celtics win National Basketball Association draft lottery, Lakers at No. 2 keep pick

Before they make a decision on who they will draft (if they do indeed keep the pick), they will have to see who the Boston Celtics select with their first overall pick. During the lottery, the Celtics secured rights to the No. 1 pick (thanks to Brooklyn).

The whole situation stems from a 2013 trade in which the Celtics sent Pierce, Garnett, and Jason Terry to Brooklyn as the Nets tried to build a star-packed team to rival the Miami Heat.

Not only that, but Philly also got the Lakers' 2018 first round pick - unprotected - since LA kept their pick this year.

Markelle Fultz is tipped to be the top overall pick.

From the Lakers' perspective, if they move Russell and draft Ball, they could possibly add some good frontcourt pieces to their promising young core that includes guard Jordan Clarkson and forwards Julius Randle and Brandon Ingram.

Of course, the Celtics don't have to oblige. Oh well. They need help on the wing, and Jayson Tatum seems like a guy to draft here.

The most obvious choice would be UCLA point guard and Los Angeles native Lonzo Ball, who has expressed interest in playing for the Lakers, even so far as his dad, LaVar, recently said that Lonzo would only workout for the Lakers before the draft.

PhoenixSuns guard Devin Booker listens as the results of the NBA basketball draftlottery are announced, Tuesday, May 17, 2016, in NY.

A month later, they were traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a massive deal that involved multiple first-round picks going to Boston.

The Celtics won by beating out the Lakers, giving the draft lottery an old NBA Finals feel.

"It's kind of what I anticipated", Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said. "Hopefully, I'll do this again because I had a lot of fun", Embiid said in an interview with a Sixers correspondent.

Amid all the conspiracy theories surrounding the NBA's lottery over the years, there hasn't been much room for shadiness and extracurricular speculation when it comes to the 12th lottery spot.

The Philadelphia 76ers could draft Duke forward Jayson Tatum with the third overall pick in the National Basketball Association draft. And now we squeeze in the lottery and win the pick.

"I think with Boston and Los Angeles getting No. 1 and No. 2, I think it makes it highly unlikely that Butler and George are involved in trades with those two teams", Wojnarowski said, as transcribed by WEEI. It marked the second time in the last three years that the Lakers have moved up in the draft lottery. We're excited. No. 2 is good.
