Cornyn says he will stay in Senate, won't be FBI director

President Donald Trump and Texas Sen. John Cornyn becoming the latest to drop out of the running on Tuesday.

Trump posed as his own spokesperson in the 1990s, reportedly spouted classified information to Russians at the White House last week and prefers the big picture over the details.

Garland, the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, had been promoted for the job by some of the same Senate Republicans who blocked his nomination and refused to give him a Senate hearing. Former aides describe him as a detail-obsessed and thoughtful boss.

John Cornyn, one of several candidates President Donald Trump is considering to replace fired FBI Director James Comey, sees no need for a special counsel to investigate possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

Trey Gowdy, a SC representative and former prosecutor known for his no-nonsense style in committee hearings, was another popular name from Capitol Hill to surface.

Cornyn is the second GOP lawmaker to remove himself from consideration, just days after he interviewed with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Trump has said a decision could come before he leaves Friday for a trip to the Mideast and Europe. "So they're definitely going to be in a position where they're going to make a very clean case, and a definitive case to the American people as well as to Congress". But he was not interviewed, and he stated his lack of interest in the position on Monday.

Brazil leader denies report he endorsed bribing ex-lawmaker
Zarattini added, "We will not accept that the issue of succession of this government is solved with indirect elections". Representatives for the congressman said he would clarify the matter when he returned on Thursday from a trip to NY .

But the problem is the political atmosphere in Washington.

Susan Collins, who sits on the intelligence committee with Cornyn, said it made sense to choose either Garland or Mike Rogers, a former House intelligence committee chairman and Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent. "But these are not normal circumstances." Sen. Among those who did not want Cornyn to leave the Senate was Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. Senate Republicans insisted at the time that the next president should replace Scalia, and the strategy paid off when Trump won the election. But Cornyn said in a statement Tuesday that he would rather remain in the Senate.

Trump is also reported to be considering other law enforcement professionals including former New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly who served under Mayor Rudy Giuliani during the 9/11 attack.

"I think the likelihood of Republican defections for Cornyn is really low", Mackowiak said.

Asked if he would accept the job if offered, he said that he liked public service. Or will Trump place a high value on a candidate who would be a reassuring voice to an organization shaken by Comey's firing?
