American Crime Story will focus on Hurricane Katrina, the 2005 natural disaster that ravaged the Greater New Orleans, Louisiana area, and will document the country's reaction to the financial and humanitarian crisis. The first season of the anthology series also won two Golden Globe Awards, including Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made For Television; four Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Movie Made for Television or Limited Series; the WGA Award for Best Adapted Long Form; and was named an AFI Television Program of the Year.

Quaid joins a heavy-hitting cast that includes Matthew Broderick playing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Michael D. Brown (who was in charge of the government's response to the disaster).

Katrina: American Crime Story is expected to air in 2018.

Dennis Quaid will play the part of the former president in the Ryan Murphy limited series.

The last American Crime Story installment was based on the OJ Simpson trial.

American Crime Story was picked up for an additional three seasons following The People's premiere. The franchise is reportedly cooking up a season about the Monica Lewinsky scandal as well, and Murphy has his eyes set on Paulson for a potential role in that. A third season of the anthology, covering the murder of fashion guru Gianni Versace, is also in production.

Quaid has experience portraying former Presidents.

It won't be Quaid's first turn as a USA leader - the Great Balls of Fire star portrayed Bill Clinton in the film A Special Relationship.
