Derek Jeter's No. 2 retired by Yankees in pregame ceremony

Anyone would have to find it unusual to catch their own reflection staring back at them the way Jeter looked at his Sunday night at Yankee Stadium, etched forever on a Monument Park plaque, bound forever to hang in the mini-museum behind the Stadium's centerfield fence. With a full count, Springer deposited the Masahiro Tanaka offering into none other than Monument Park and the newly mounted Jeter display plaque.

Derek Jeter has taken his place among Yankee legends.

One other Yankee who wasn't in NY in 2014 has a bit of a connection to Jeter: second baseman Starlin Castro, who was a Chicago Cub then.

On Sunday, the franchise retired the jersey number that was worn for 20 years by future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter.

The Bleacher Creatures' first-inning Roll Call of Yankees starters included Jeter, who led NY to five World Series titles during a big league career that spanned 1995-2014, and fans chanted Jeter's name in the late innings. In his speech to the adoring sellout crowd, Jeter opened with a shout-out to all the moms out there and his pregnant wife, Hannah, who joined him on the field for the 40-minute lovefest.

"There isn't a person or player I would trade places with that's playing now or ever", he told the fans.

Volkswagen UP! GTI is the Original Golf GTI Reincarnated
The news comes after it revealed a new concept was due to be unveiled in Austria next week. Unless VW's had a serious off day, this promises to be a thoroughly good vehicle.

Former teammates Mariano Rivera, Paul ONeill, Tino Martinez, David Cone and Hideki Matsui also were on hand. "I'm sure it'll be a wonderful event for the fans and for Derek, as well".

During the ceremony, the current Yankees and Astros were situated in the dugout, many hanging over the railing to get a better look. Alex Rodriguez was not — spokesman Ron Berkowitz said A-Rod was in Miami, spending time with his mother and daughters. "The house Jeter built", said another, echoing the nickname for the old Yankee Stadium as "The House that Ruth built".

The Yankees stopped their first three-game losing streak since the opening week of the season.

"I've said this before, there is one thing that stands out of to me on the field".

Carlos Beltran added an RBI double and Carlos Correa lifted a sacrifice fly as Houston improved to 11-3 in its last 14 games.

Bloomberg reported last month that Jeter's group won the auction for the Marlins. Absolutely nothing, ” he said. "I think sometimes people get ahead of themselves, and there was a story that got way ahead of themselves a few weeks back". "When we were in it we used to constantly have conversations about it: You never look back at anything that we had accomplished, it was always what's next. So I thought it would be nice to have this special day on Mother's Day to honor her and all that she's meant not only to my career, but she helped shape who I am today".
