The diplomatic incident has sparked outrage in Washington and even prompted the State Department to summon the Turkish ambassador.

"I'd throw the Turkish ambassador out", the Arizona Republican told MSNBC's "Morning Joe", the Hill reported.

The United States says it released two members of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's (REH'-jehp TY'-ihp UR'-doh-wahns) security detail after briefly detaining them during a violent incident outside the Turkish ambassador's residence in Washington.

The bloody brawl sent nine to the hospital and Turkish security officials were seen coming out of the ambassador's residence, then retreating to the residence grounds, a law enforcement official said, adding that the same scenario played out a few times.

Investigators with the Metropolitan Police Department are working with the Secret Service and the State Department to identify the people on the videos.

And that's what we saw playing out later that day near the Turkish embassy grounds, when otherwise peaceful protesters were set upon by Turkish government thugs.

The Turkish government placed the blame at the feet of the protesters, claiming that they were affiliated with "terrorist" groups.

"The Turkish-Americans responded in self-defense", the statement read. Shortly after the incident, Kilic was recorded shouting "You can not touch us!" at DC police, likely referring to his diplomatic immunity.

The minister was in Washington with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who met US President Donald Trump.

Police said 11 people were injured, including a Washington police officer, and two people were arrested for assault.

"Reports indicate that some Turkish officials were involved in assaulting protesters, which violates the most basic rules of democracy and is an affront to the United States and the value we place on the right to free speech, as embodied in our Constitution".

Still, the State Department said it was expressing "concern" to Turkey over the incident "in the strongest possible terms". The violence and injuries were the result of this unpermitted, provocative demonstration.

"We are already telling you in advance: Our rules of engagement give us this authority", Erdogan said. USA officials said this month that the White House had approved supplying arms to the YPG, a decision that caused alarm in Ankara.

Turkey views the YPG-PYD as a terrorist group, which may explain why Erdogan's security might have wanted to intervene in the protest when they saw a flag from the PYD party.
