US President Donald Trump welcomes Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as he arrives for meetings at the White House in Washington, DC, May 16, 2017.

Police said 11 people were injured, including a Washington police officer, and two people were arrested for assault.

State also confirmed that two members of the Turkish security team were detained after Tuesday's incident, and then released. Erdogan's guards - and a group of supporters who joined the melee - should be charged with crimes.

In the video, D.C. police officers can be seen struggling to protect the small group of protestors who had gathered to speak out against Erdogan's authoritarian policies.

The Turkish embassy released a statement on May 17 that contradicted US officials and video evidence, blaming instead the demonstrators, who, it said, had been "aggressively provoking Turkish-American citizens who had peacefully assembled to greet the president".

Sen. John McCain said the United States should toss the Turkish ambassador "the hell out" after a demonstration outside the envoy's home in Washington turned violent and several protesters were beaten bloody.

"The violent response of your security detail to peaceful protestors is wholly unacceptable and, unfortunately, reflective of your government's treatment of the press, ethnic minority groups and political opponents", the senators wrote. "We also said this: If terror organizations pose a threat for us we will use our self-defense right and do what is necessary". The Secret Service said it plans to work with the police and the State Department "to aggressively pursue accountability for those involved in yesterday's protests".

Trump denies that he requested Comey end investigation into Flynn
Fighting back has consumed much of the political oxygen inside the White House, leaving Trump's agenda in doubt. Trump said his administration was committed to cutting the flow of drugs into the United States.

But he's not allowed to crack heads in the United States.

According to the International Crisis Group, at least 2,798 people, including state security personnel and Kurdish militants, have been killed in Turkey.

Turkey's foreign minister also demanded that a US envoy be removed for allegedly backing the Kurds, but the State Department said Brett McGurk has the "full support" of the Trump administration.

"We should throw their ambassador the hell out of the United States of America", the Arizona Republican told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Thursday.

"We witnessed what appeared to be a brutal attack on peaceful protesters", said Peter Newsham, chief of the Metropolitan Police Department in the nation's capital.

He said that parts of Turkey's southeast and eastern regions, where the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) has been fighting a decades-old insurgency, were still flooded with weapons.
