Joe Lieberman Among Candidates To Be Interviewed To Head FBI

In this photo taken August 1, 2011, then-Sen. "I do not do this for political purposes, Mr. Speaker".

President Donald Trump is meeting Wednesday afternoon with four candidates to be the next director of the FBI, White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced in a gaggle aboard Air Force One. Spicer said the others are current Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former Oklahoma Gov.

Former Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher, who was interviewed at the Department of Justice on Saturday, withdrew her name from the shortlist on Wednesday, according to a source familiar with her conversations. Says he trusts Comey more than Trump. Asked if he would accept the job if offered, he said that he liked public service.

The memo only added to the furor surrounding Trump's sudden and controversial firing of Comey last week, which came amid the FBI's intensifying probe into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign and Trump campaign associates' potential collusion with Moscow officials.

Whoever Trump picks will have to win Senate confirmation, and that will likely require demonstrating a willingness to be independent from Trump.

Trump asked Comey when he would dispel investigation rumors
A Gallup tracking poll put Trump's approval rating at a historically low 38 percent, even before the latest wave of scandals. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) told The Hill , potentially voicing the concerns of other members.

The moves comes a day after it was disclosed that Comey had written a memo detailing how Trump had asked him to shut down the investigation into Flynn. Trump fired Comey from his post last week. Lieberman switched to being an independent in 2006. "That includes Senator Lieberman".

Lieberman now works at the law firm that often represents Trump, Kasowitz.

McFeely retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2014; most recently, he led the Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch.

McCabe seems an unlikely choice.

Lieberman, who President Donald Trump interviewed on Wednesday, was the vice presidential running mate when Democrat Al Gore ran for the White House in 2000.
