Kezia Dugdale: General Election could determine if United Kingdom continues to exist

Directly addressing Labour voters, Ms Davidson will say: "This week the Scottish Labour party - already weakened - has entered a state of civil war".

The Scottish Labour leader used a speech in Glasgow to reach out to voters who do not support plans for a second independence referendum and those who are "fed up with Nicola Sturgeon's refusal to get on with the day job".

Kezia Dugdale, leader of Scottish Labour, warned councillors in Britain's oil capital they would be in breach of the rules if they went ahead with the extraordinary plan to hook up with the Tories.

It came just hours after Alex Rowley, the party's deputy leader, said the SEC had also rejected a possible coalition with the Tories in West Lothian.

She will claim that with the "help" of Labour voters, her party can defeat the SNP in "many places" across Scotland.

During First Minister's Questions today, out Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale revealed she is getting legal threats after condemning a homophobic comment from a prominent blogger with close ties to the SNP.

One of the Labour councillors suspended by Dugdale is Sandra MacDonald, the wife of Labour's front-bench external affairs spokesman at Holyrood, Lewis MacDonald. After holding or sharing power in 18 of Scotland's 32 local authorities, it is now the largest party in only three and tied with the SNP in a fourth.

"But our votes are being hijacked by Tory and SNP politicians who want to use how we voted in referendums and general elections to assume something about the kind of future we want to see".

He said the nine suspended councillors in Aberdeen "broke those rules".

The Laptop Ban - Ban It or Expand It?
It would be an expansion to an existing United States laptop ban on flights from ten Muslim-majority countries. While the proposed ban is still in the proposal stage, it could go into effect at any time .

With a handful of independent councillors in support, that meant Labour was the junior partner in the coalition, leaving it open to electorally damaging charges it was propping up the Tories simply to block the SNP from taking power.

Labour's high command has threatened to suspend the councillors who stunned members by striking a deal with the Tories to seize control of a council of in one of Britain's most crucial economic centres. Crockett and Laing have been approached for a response.

"We still regard ourselves as Scottish Labour people, but, unfort- unately, we disagreed with a decision taken by the SEC and we felt we had no option but to do the deal with the Tories because it gives us the best chance to implement anti-austerity policies in Aberdeen".

The ballot on June 8 is "no ordinary election", Ms Dugdale said, saying the result would determine the direction the UK takes for years to come and could even "determine whether there is a United Kingdom at all".

As the row over the proposed deal erupted earlier on Wednesday, Dugdale had indicated she was not satisfied the Aberdeen coalition deal had those guarantees.

He said: "I absolutely and categorically reject any accusations that I'm a homophobe - it's an outrageous and completely false allegation and we'll be pursuing the case in court".

"The SNP won this local election in Aberdeen decisively, yet we face being locked out of office by a Labour Party that is now committed to cutting public services rather than engaging with our progressive programme to improve people's lives across Aberdeen".

She suspended all nine Labour councillors in Aberdeen after they ignored her public order to abandon a deal they had struck with the Tories and independents.
