McMaster: Trump Shared 'Wholly Appropriate' Info with Russians, Wasn't Briefed on Sources

Lee, R-Utah, said he wants an accounting of what was discussed.

It said that Trump told Lavrov about a specific IS bomb threat.

On Monday, McMaster said, "At no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed".

Powell flatly said: "This story is false".

According to the Post, however, Trump relayed "code-word information" to the Russian diplomats - one of the highest classification levels used by the U.S. intelligence community. Just as news broke that U.S. President Donald Trump had shared classified information with the Russian government, two federal cabinet ministers arrived for dinner at the State Department.

But he also did not deny when directly questioned that Trump had relayed classified information from an ally to the Russians, or that Trump named a city. Trump will be visiting Israel next week on his first foreign trip as president.

It's unlikely that Trump has broken any law.

Putin said Russian Federation was ready to hand a transcript of Trump's meeting with Lavrov over to US lawmakers if that would help reassure them.

The Washington Post reported Monday that an unnamed ally was burned by the revelation as Trump shared information "provided by a USA partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the US government", a disclosure that "jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State".

"That being said, I am not going to comment any further on that", Spicer added.

"The President and the (Russian) foreign minister reviewed common threats from terrorist organisations to include threats to aviation", said McMaster, the National Security Adviser, who participated in the meeting. "I think national security is put at risk by this leak and leaks like this".

"We appreciate the relationship we have with Israel and appreciate the exchange of information we have with them", Spicer said in a press briefing Tuesday. "The Senate Intelligence Committee should be briefed on this important issue immediately". "It likely won't happen again", the diplomatic source said.

"That the Russians would be the potential recipients of this intelligence and may be able to determine its source is all the more problematic, since the Russian interest in Syria and elsewhere is, in many respects, deeply antithetical to our own", Schiff said. For another, as mentioned above, few of our allies have more reason to fear the prospect of their intelligence sources and methods leaking to Russian Federation, given Putin's alliance with Iran.

The story prompted Sen.

While the Trump administration works to downplay the situation, fatigue over yet another Trump controversy appears to be a growing factor.

"If the report is true, it is very disturbing", said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. According to The Post, officials scrambled to "contain the potential fallout" from the conversation by quickly contacting the directors of the CIA and the National Security Agency.
