With CD Projekt Red out of the way for the Netflix series, Sapkowski is the only one who will be receiving royalties off the show - assuming he learned from past mistakes before signing this contract, that is. That being said, it is safe to say we probably would not be talking about a Witcher TV show without CD Projekt Red's massively popular RPG series. The series follows the adventures of professional monster hunter Geralt of Rivia as he navigates the twisted maze of politics and prejudice that make up Sapkowski's dark fantasy adventure.

"Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar", said Erik Barmack, Netflix's vice president of worldwide series. "The characters are original, funny, and constantly surprising and we can't wait to bring them to life on Netflix, the flawless home for innovative storytelling". Even though CD Projekt Red is not working on the project, Netflix has a great track record with material of this sort, as their Marvel series Daredevil has done extremely well on the platform with high reviews.

"I'm thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over 30 years writing", said Sapkowski.

The team also includes Tomas Baginski, who directed the intro videos in all Witcher games. Oscar-nominated Tomek Baginski will also be joining the project with Jarek Sawko from Platige Image. Sean Daniel (of The Mummy and The Expanse) was previously attached to the movie, but is now onboard to produce the Netflix series, along with fellow producer Jason Brown.

A "The Witcher" TV Series is reportedly in the works over at Netflix.

No details have yet been released regarding when The Witcher will begin filming, but it's expected to be later this year.

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt", released in May 2015, obtained nearly flawless scores from critics, and was deemed by many "the best role-playing game ever made".
