Nottingham Forest takeover completed by controversial Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis

A statement on Forest's official website read: "Nottingham Forest FC have announced the takeover of the club by a consortium headed by Evangelos M Marinakis, a Greek ship owner, businessman and owner of Greek champions Olympiakos, and Sokratis Kominakis, a Greek businessman and investor, previously a senior executive with several multinational corporations".

He still faces charges of being "part of a criminal organisation" - a wide network of individuals, who are alleged to have fixed football matches - stemming from a separate investigation in Greece. "I have nothing to be afraid of as I have done nothing wrong", the 49-year-old said.

"All these years, a lot has been said but nothing came out in reality".

Although he is waiting to discover whether a remaining case against him will proceed. "Of course I can not stop our opponents talking or bad-mouthing".

And as well as putting a behind-the-scenes structure in place, Marinakis, who also owns Greek giants Olympiacos, has laid out his vision for the Reds.

Person Killed, 22 Injured After Car Plows Into Crowd In Times Square
Witnesses in Times Square watched in horror as vehicle plowed over pedestrians, killing one and injuring 19 others. The auto hit a pole and came to rest at 45th Street and Broadway before police took the driver away.

News of the sale of the club by the Al-Hasawi family comes months after takeover talks with John Jay Moores, who owns Major League Baseball side the San Diego Padres, fell through.

Marinakis also praised the team for avoiding relegation from the Championship and gave his support to manager Mark Warburton saying: "We will provide Mark and his team with the time and support necessary to rebuild the team and create the conditions for success".

Marinakis said: 'Our intention is to keep Nottingham Forest thoroughly embedded in English football culture.

He said: "We believe that in Mark Warburton and his team the right people were selected to take the club forward on the pitch by delivering the passing game that the club's supporters love, and for which Nottingham Forest are known and remembered throughout the world". They were relegated from the Premier League in 1999 and have struggled under various owners to return.

"It has been a very hard time to be a Forest fan, there were a number of fans who had become very disenfranchised and ostracised but we have now seen the first steps into restoring some pride in the football club".
