President Pence? Veep Starts Fundraising Amid Trump Scandals

This year - despite months of speculation on whether or not the University would invite President Donald Trump - Vice President Mike Pence, the former Governor of IN, was selected to address the class of 2017 at Sunday's Commencement ceremony as the graduates go forward into the next stage of their lives.

After a New York Times report Tuesday, citing unnamed sources, alleged Trump pressed FBI Director James Comey to drop a probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, Democrats on Capitol Hill ramped up the calls for impeachment.

A Pence aide, who also declined to be named, added that "The vice president stands by his comments in March upon first hearing the news regarding General Flynn's ties to Turkey and fully supports the president's decision to ask for General Flynn's resignation".

And there are fresh questions about how much Pence knew as head of Trump's transition team. "There's a pattern as it relates to the Flynn situation - vis a vis Pence - that he was never, either intentionally or unintentionally, made aware of the facts", the source said.

"I would encourage them to keep an open mind", he said "Obviously having a constructive dialogue is an important thing, and I think that if you don't attend Commencement, it'll be hard to keep that dialogue open". These students are disrespecting the office of the Vice President.

So who's to blame? Pence "wants to support House and Senate members who are helping pass the president's agenda". While it is also possible that Pence expects Trump to survive his first term, but decline to seek reelection, that possibility appears somewhat less likely given that Trump filed his reelection papers on the day that he was inaugurated, and had already raised more than $12 million for his 2020 run by mid-April. "It's either malpractice or intentional, and either are unacceptable".

A day after the so-called "Comey memo" ricocheted through Washington and effectively resulted in the naming of a special counsel to probe what President Trump once called "this Russian Federation thing", Vice President Pence filed paperwork to launch his own political action committee.

President Pence will most probably carry the same agenda as Trump and would be just as bad (if not worse) when it comes to women, working class, people of color and LGBTQ Americans. Joe Biden was already a federal official (a US senator) when he became vice president, and Dick Cheney was sworn in before the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act regulating political campaign financing was enacted in 2003. But even if he could, there's still the fact that a Trump departure-through resignation or removal-would completely fracture the Republican Party, laying bear the divisions that nearly consumed it during the 2016 presidential election.

However, the move is not typical for a Vice President.

"His political assets and database have not been able to be used, this puts us in the position where we can begin to use them and grow them", Ayers said. Ayers said campaign finance lawyers had recommended that this was the best way for Pence to shift assets from his state campaigns into a federal account.

Pence takes umbrage at the very mention of the idea, according to people who have heard him speak about it.

And as everyone knows, there's nothing more treacherous than email.
