And while Comey himself has been silent, his associates have been exposing intriguing details of his encounters with Trump. The Post reported that USA officials were concerned that Trump had disclosed highly sensitive information from an ally that contained enough details to possibly enable the Russians to draw a fuller picture of the source.

Vladimir Putin, president of the Russian Federation, can vouch for Donald Trump's claim that no significant intelligence information was leaked to his foreign minister. Yet U.S. allies and some members of Congress have expressed concern bordering on alarm.

Then it emerged that Mr Trump had asked the former FBI director to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Putin dismissed criticism of what Trump said in the private conservation as "political schizophrenia".

The week began badly enough with the administration being forced to admit that Trump gave away classified intel during his Oval Office visit with Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador to the USA - and reputed Kremlin spy-master - Sergey Kislyak.

"Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey", Trump said in an interview MSNBC aired Friday.

The development comes as the Trump administration faces questions over why and how the president fired Comey last week as the FBI was investigating whether Trump's presidential campaign was connected to Russian meddling in the election.

After news of the memo broke, the White House issued a strong statement of denial.

Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee Jason Chaffetz has stated he wants the Federal Bureau of Investigation to hand over all "memoranda, notes, summaries and recordings" of discussions between Trump and Comey.

May said the government has confidence in its relationship with the United States, and will continue to share intelligence with Britain's most important defense and security ally. They made the recommendation over the former FBI director's handling of the investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's private email server. "There is plenty of oversight that is being done". Most alarming, Trump revealed the city where the partner had gained the information, the Post reported. The person was not authorized to discuss the memo by name and spoke on condition of anonymity. This information was reportedly disclosed via a memo that Comey had taken shortly after meeting with Trump, which led to a firestorm of conversation and speculation on Tuesday evening. The White House disputed the account.

Trump fired Flynn on February 13 on grounds that he had misled Vice-President Mike Pence and other officials about his contacts with Russians.

Al Green today said: 'No one is above the law and that includes the President of the United States of America'. His first stop on his five-nation tour will be on Friday in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Trump drew strong condemnation from Democrats as well as some Republican lawmakers.

"The story that came out tonight as reported is false", McMaster told reporters at the White House Monday.

Another report by CNN states that the Senate intelligence committee has put in a request to be told what was said during the meeting between Trump and Lavrov.

"Memos, transcripts, tapes - the list keeps getting longer", he said.
