'Seattle's son' Chris Cornell mourned in city

But now the singer joins fellow fallen Seattle grunge architects like Kurt Cobain and Layne Stanley with his recent passing on Wednesday night in Detroit; mere hours after Soundgarden had performed at city's Fox Theater venue.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said Thursday it completed the preliminary autopsy on Cornell, but that "a full autopsy report has not yet been completed".

"The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide. There is no additional information at this time", it said.

Detroit police spokesman Dan Donakowski said that officers were called to Cornell's hotel around midnight by a friend of the musician and found Cornell "laying in his bathroom, unresponsive and he had passed away". But Cornell still emerged as one of alternative-rock's ultimate heartthrobs for his long, curly hair, fondness for going shirtless and piercing eyes.

Cornell was one of the architects of the 1990s Seattle grunge rock scene which generated not only Soundgarden but Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains.

In a statement to The Associated Press, his representative Brian Bumbery said the pioneer in the 1980s grunge music movement died on Wednesday night in Detroit. As the tributes begin to pour through the Internet, a message from Warren Haynes pulls at our heart's strings as we, too, now wonder what Cornell's voice would have sounded like in a Gov't Mule record - which Haynes says was once a possibility in the Shout! recording sessions.

Trump administration announces plans to renegotiate NAFTA
In 2016, USA corn exports to Mexico totaled 13.3 million metric tons (523.5 million bushels) of corn, valued at $2.5 billion. US critics blame it for killing manufacturing jobs, a constant refrain in Trump's presidential campaign.

Cornell was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden on a United States tour that kicked off last month.

The School's Out singer said on Thursday: "Chris Cornell, in our circle, was known as The Voice because he had the best voice in rock and roll".

Soundgarden, who split in acrimony in 1997, reunited and Cornell released a series of solo albums as well as a theme song for the James Bond film "Casino Royale". Cornell went on to play music on his own and with a new group called Audioslave.

Soundgarden's current tour kicked off in late April and had been due to run until 27 May.

Cornell also collaborated with members of what would become Pearl Jam to form Temple of the Dog, which produced a self-titled album in 1991 in tribute to friend Andrew Wood, former frontman for Mother Love Bone.
