According to the Officer Down Memorial Page in the past year 153 officers died in the line of duty, 18 of whom were in Texas law enforcement. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a motion for declaratory judgment a day after Abbott signed the measure into law, seeking a ruling that the ban is constitutional and can be implemented as scheduled on September 1. However, the San Antonio City Council has not taken action to consider joining a lawsuit against the state.

The lawsuit named all 10 City Council members, Mayor Steve Adler, Interim City Manager Elaine Hart, Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund as defendants. The state action, which Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed earlier in May, seeks to block constitutional challenges to SB4 from potential opponents of the law, including immigrant rights groups. That's the so-called "Sanctuary Cities" ban that Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law last week. It also allows officers to ask about a person's immigration status during routine stops.

Lakers' Magic Johnson 'Excited' About #2 Pick, Won't Commit to Lonzo Ball
While the Celtics and Lakers were the big winners, it wasn't just those franchises that had a lot at stake last night. After the lottery ended, Pierce wrote on twitter: "And look what I leave behind for the Celts on my way out #1 pick".

The law would require all Texas law enforcement agencies to comply with U.S. Customs And Immigration Enforcement.

Leaders from El Paso County and the cities of Dallas and Austin confirmed Tuesday during a rally at the State Capitol that they intend to move forward with resolutions or litigation next week. "We will be discussing intervening in the case, coming to the aid of Austin because we have a large city attorney's office and we have lots of legal resources". "It is bad for Texas; it is bad for public safety". "We're in a public safety crisis and the governor is making my city less safe". "The law enforcement officers who protect this great state, and the families who stand by their side, deserve our deepest respect", said Governor Abbott. San Antonio City Council Member Rey Saldana told the crowd in Austin that SB4 is an attack on the "defenseless", warning that "if you attempt to paint and profile members of my community as criminals, we will fight back".
