The FCC Moves To Ruin The Internet You Know & Love

Sohn, now a distinguished fellow at the Institute for Technology Law & Policy at Georgetown University Law School, suggested Pai will have the burden of showing the courts how circumstances have changed since the USA appellate court in the District of Columbia ruled on the legitimacy of the Open Internet Order just previous year.

The Federal Communications Commission has officially begun undoing net neutrality rules the agency passed two years ago. The internet has become a core part of modern society, and Robinson's statement probably won't be the only one warning about the broader implications of deregulating US internet providers. The proposal now goes through an official public commenting period before a final vote is considered.

Facebook Inc FB.O , Alphabet Inc GOOGL.O and other internet companies back net neutrality rules, saying they guarantee equal access to the internet.

Gigi Sohn, a counselor to former FCC chairman Tom Wheeler, says the public comments could also factor into any court battle that may come later over the rule change.

Pai has said he welcomed such input and that the NPRM is just the beginning of the process. Franken said in a statement made available to PoliticusUSA, "Make no mistake: the FCC just took a major step toward destroying the internet as we know it, putting the interests of a handful of giant corporations like Comcast and Verizon ahead of the American people".

Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave no more
An RSS worker from Badnagar in Madhya Pradesh, Dave did his post-graduation in commerce from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. The country woke up to the news of Environment minister Anil Madhav Dave's untimely demise this Thursday morning.

The net neutrality rules, approved by the FCC in 2015, prevent Internet providers from playing favorites by deliberately speeding up or slowing down traffic from specific websites and apps.

Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers (such as AT&T and Verizon) should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites. Through this review, the FCC said it seeks to "reduce regulations that can stand in the way of competition, innovation, and investment in the media marketplace".

"The FCC is moving the conversation beyond the merits of net neutrality to how best to safeguard this universally embraced value with a modern, constructive policy framework", USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter said in an emailed statement. But it's not clear yet whether many voters are savvy enough, or motivated enough, to cast a ballot on net neutrality as a critical issue. Pai's plan would roll back this classification, which could result in ISPs being once again placed under the much weaker Title I regulations.

"We should not let broadband providers define the rules of engagement", Clyburn said. She said the proposal "jeopardizes the ability of the open internet to function tomorrow, as it does today". But both Pai and Hill Republicans are unified in their opposition to Title II, and some Dems have signaled the well has been poisoned for compromise given the general tenor of the times on the Hill. Support for the rules has broad, bipartisan support, and if Pai and friends want to kill them, they're going to have to fight tooth and nail against the will of the public, the courts, and common sense to do it.
