The UO is taking steps to protect campus from ransomware

They thought that they did everything that they could to defend their systems, but wannacry disabled many institutions so fast that in the countries most affected, many hospitals were unable to function even though their IT systems are usually the best when it comes to security. However, there is a huge debate if cyber insurance also covers the ransom paid to cyber criminals.

According to the FT, the cost of updating older Windows versions "went from US$200 (RM865.50) per device in 2014, when regular support for XP ended, to US$400 the following year", while some clients were asked to pay heftier fees.

The Indian Cyber Army sources said that there has been under reporting of such incidents as many individuals use pirated version of the Windows software. But Microsoft actually issued a patch for this particular flaw back in March, and people who installed it immediately were presumably unaffected by WannaCry.

Although there were fears that India's antiquated systems may be vulnerable, the damage so far appears to be negligible. It then ended NHS funding for custom XP support, reportedly in an attempt to encourage health service bosses to upgrade their systems.

The malicious software hit tens of thousands of systems in hospitals, schools, vehicle factories, shops and more, locking computers worldwide with an unprecedented global reach.

"As cybercriminals become more sophisticated, there is simply no way for customers to protect themselves against threats unless they update their systems". "Software updates and security patches are pushed to us as needed so that we are using the most current approved versions of software on our computers".

In the wake of the massive global WannaCry ransomware attacks, worldwide governments and software vendors have begun playing the blame game.

Planned Parenthood to close 4 Iowa clinics after funding cut
A state report in 2015 found that almost 30,000 fewer women received birth control, cancer screenings and other care as a result. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, chief medical officer at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement on Thursday.

However, WannaCry didn't just affect the public sector.

The WannaCry worm has affected more than 200,000 Windows computers around the world since Friday, disrupting auto factories, global shipper FedEx Corp and Britain's National Health Service, among others.

There are over 2.2 lakh ATMs in India, of which many old ones run on Windows XP.

Experts described it as the world's "greatest cyber-attack".

Fresh reports of attack have also started getting lodged from other parts of the country.

Today Chinese media condemned the United States for delaying struggles to halt global cyber intimidations in the stir of the WannaCry ransomware bout.
