Skoda Karoq SUV

The Karoq name is another "K" name from Skoda - with the same Alaskan roots as the Kodiaq - and has a big job on its hands to live up to the more that 1 million units a year Skoda sold of the Yeti, but this replacement is bang on in terms of what the market wants, is bigger at 4382mm long, 1841mm wide and 1605mm high and a wheelbase of 2638mm and gets plenty of technology. With the seats in place, the Karoq offers more space than a Seat Ateca, although its other sister auto - the Volkswagen Tiguan - boasts a larger 615-litre boot.

Read on to find out all you need to know about the all-new Skoda Karoq including engine specs, interior details and essential practicality stats.

The Karoq is being launched with a line-up of five engines.

As previously reported, the Karoq will be offered in either front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) guises, while five engine options - two petrol and three diesel - are available overseas.

The entry-level diesel is a 1.6-litre motor, producing 114bhp and 250Nm of torque, and emitting 118g/km of CO2. The displacement ranges are 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 l.

Skoda has stated that it will offer either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission on most models, there will also be both front- and all-wheel drive options within the range. Skoda claims it can crack 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 131mph - although its Carbon dioxide emissions of 138g/km mean it's likely to be one of the niche choices in the range, especially in the UK.

Diesel options are offered in the form of the 2.0 litre TDI with two power output options at 159 hp and 189 hp. For the 4WD versions, there would be an additional off-road mode with an electronic diff lock and traction control. The boot space of the Skoda Karoq is 521 litre with the rear seats in place.

Its three rear seats are individual, if ordered with a "VarioFlex" system, making the interior one of the more practical of this type of auto. If they are folded down, the boot capacity increases to 1,630 litres. It will also have inbuilt LTE connectivity for accessing the internet for different requirements.

Other salient features on the new compact SUV will include a generous list of safety features, along with a brand new, modern interior with Skoda's very first fully digital instrument console. It offers a range of layouts created to prioritise driving data or a range of additional information, including navigation instructions, a gear indicator or traffic sign information. Other than that, the Karoq gets the full set of driver assistance systems like Park Assist, Lane Assist and Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detect and Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection.

Skoda has said that the Karoq's market launch is set for the second half of 2017. We'd expect it to cost more than the Yeti, with a starting price of around £17,500.

New Delhi:Skoda Karoq compact SUV has finally been unveiled and is a part of Skoda's 2025 strategy of expanding its product portfolio.
