Trump asked Comey when he would dispel investigation rumors

President Donald Trump lashed out Thursday at the appointment of a special counsel to investigate allegations his campaign collaborated with Russian Federation as Congress confronted an apparent setback in its own probes: A lawyer for Michael Flynn said the fired national security adviser would not provide documents for an intelligence panel's inquiry.

The day after the Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to the congressional investigations into Democrats' claims of Russian interference in USA elections, Trump said he respected the decision, but added: "I think that divides the country".

Mr Comey, a diligent and generally well-respected Federal Bureau of Investigation director during his tenure, was known to write memos and disseminate them to his friends and allies in and out of the Federal Bureau of Investigation when he encountered situations that he thought were inappropriate.

During a private conversation in June previous year, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said: "There's two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump".

The Times also reports that the day after Trump talked to Comey about Flynn, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus asked Comey to assist with pushing back against reports that during the campaign, Trump associates had been in contact with Russian intelligence officials. Other advisers joined the discussion, with a goal of presenting the President with a plan for outside legal counsel as the Russian Federation investigation enters a new and potentially perilous phase for the White House.

"No! No!" Trump said tersely.

Joe Lieberman one of top picks for FBI job, says Trump
Since leaving the Senate, Lieberman has worked at a large NY law firm that has represented Trump's business interests in the past. But Lieberman lost his senate seat to a primary challenger in 2006, and he ran as an independent to retain his seat.

"I wish the president would stop tweeting", said Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) told The Hill, potentially voicing the concerns of other members. That would surely include Trump's firing last week of FBI Director James Comey. "He can take care of himself", Santos said.

"We look forward to getting this whole situation behind us", he said, vowing to focus his administration's resources instead on creating jobs, strengthening the military and reforming health care.

His appointment, by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, was a striking shift for the Justice Department, which had resisted increasingly insistent calls from Democrats for an outside prosecutor.

Fighting back against multiple crises has consumed much of the political oxygen inside the White House, leaving Trump's agenda in doubt. And special counsel investigations can begin with one issue and refocus on another, as was the case with the Whitewater investigation that ended up with Bill Clinton's impeachment after disclosures of his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

A Gallup tracking poll put Trump's approval rating at a historically low 38 percent, even before the latest wave of scandals.
