Trump dubs himself as 'worst-treated' politician in history

At the ceremony, in-line with tradition at US military graduations, the president also "pardoned" the cadets for their "oversights or slight violations" during their time at the academy. Trump complains he's the victim of unfair media coverage.

SCOTT HORSLEY, BYLINE: For the first 20 minutes of his speech, Trump stuck to a traditional script - praising the proud parents, saluting public service and offering some advice to the uniformed graduates that adversity makes you stronger.

In a nod to the turmoil plaguing his administration, Mr. Trump also told the cadets to follow his example and "never give up" when life treats you wrongly or unfairly.

"Never stop doing what you know is right", the president added to the Coast Guard graduates.

Trump urged the cadets to "never, never, never give up" because "things will work out just fine".

The administration looks to suspend the controversy - even briefly - as President Trump, joined by Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly and the commandant of the Coast Guard will graduate nearly 200 soon-to-be ensigns into 226-year-old military service tasked with protecting the nation's borders and maritime installments.
