Colorado lawmakers roundly applauded the decision Wednesday evening to appoint former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Russian meddling into the 2016 election, though at least two Democrats said they wanted more.

"This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history", he wrote.

According to CNN, former FBI director Robert Mueller was asked to oversee the investigation in a signed order from deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein.

It was announced Wednesday that former FBI Director Robert Mueller would be the special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia's meddling in last year's election and any possible ties between Trump campaign associates and Russian Federation.

The President also suggested that the investigation that will now be led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller was also motivated by an attempt to tarnish his election victory previous year. He also told network anchors at the White House on Thursday that appointing a special counsel "hurts the country".

The only person that may not be excited about the appointment is President Trump, who has issued some conflicting statements on the matter. The move aimed to quell the wave of criticism facing the Trump administration since the President fired Comey last week as the investigation intensified.

The comments mirrored a speech by Trump on Wednesday, before Mueller's appointment was announced, in which he said no politician in history "has been treated worse or more unfairly". "I urge Mr. Mueller to follow the facts wherever they may lead-with integrity and independence".

Separately, McClatchy News Service reported Wednesday that before Trump took office, Flynn had blocked an Obama administration military plan, opposed by Turkey, against the Islamic State group.

Brazil's President Temer 'taped agreeing £120m in bribes'
The country's Bovespa stock index fell in Sao Paulo trading by about 10.5 percent, forcing a temporary trade stop for stocks. Temer is denying a report that he endorsed the alleged bribing of a jailed former congressman to keep him quiet.

Mueller, a former Marine officer and federal prosecutor, was sworn in as the sixth director of the FBI on September 4, 2001 - just a week before the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The surprise announcement to hand the probe over to Mueller, a lawman who garners deep bipartisan respect, was a striking shift for Trump's Justice Department, which had resisted increasingly loud calls from Democrats for an outside prosecutor.

Russian Federation has denied US intelligence agencies' conclusion that it interfered in the election campaign to try to tilt the vote in Trump's favor.

US stocks recovered ground on Thursday as upbeat economic data emboldened investors to return to the market, a day after Wall Street saw the biggest selloff in eight months on worries the political turmoil could undermine Trump initiatives such as tax cuts that investors see as favouring economic growth. Patrick Fitzgerald, the former USA attorney appointed to investigate the outing of Central Intelligence Agency agent Valerie Plame, was one.

Durbin said Trump's actions - including the decision to fire Comey and his "incessant" provocative posts on Twitter - have done more harm than any enemy, real or perceived, could. The reports, based on a memo Comey wrote after their conversation, fueled allegations by Democrats that the Republican president may have been trying to obstruct the investigation.

"That's the bottom line. folks don't see the Russian Federation investigation or Bob Mueller news as directly impacting their life", MSNBC Reporter Garrett Haake said about the voters.

"I believe Mueller will be independent, he will be thorough and he will be fair and he's not going to be easily swayed", said Elijah Cummings of Maryland, top Democrat on the oversight panel.
