Trusts told to remain vigilant with updated cyber-attack guidance

Microsoft said the attack was a wake-up call and identified nation-state action and organised criminal action as the two most serious forms of cybersecurity threats in the world today.

Tehan urged businesses to visit the website of the ACSC or phone (1300 CYBER1) for more information.

It said: 'There were no infected computers in North East GP practices and the priority through this global malware incident was to protect the NHS computer network, clinical systems and patient data - and this was done very successfully.

Petients have been told they can attend their GP surgeries as normal following last week's computer cyber attack - though some facilities were still seeing difficulties on Monday.

In Britain, whose health service was among the first high-profile targets of the online extortion scheme, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said "we have not seen a second wave of attacks".

However, NHS Digital said only 4.7% of the NHS is now using Windows XP, with the figure decreasing, and a spokesperson told BJ-HC today that no evidence has been found as of yet that patient data was compromised in the cyber attack.

It also asked patients with pre-booked GP appointments to "please bring with you any medications, letters or paperwork you already have".

But since 3pm yesterday, only two hospitals remain on divert following the ransomware cyber-attack, down from seven.

But on Tuesday afternoon the trust confirmed the services would return to normal tomorrow morning.

The NHS was badly affected by the WannaCry ransomware virus, which affected more than 300,000 computers, with 47 trusts in England and 13 Scottish health boards compromised.

At Broomfield Hospital, part of Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust (Midlands & East), trauma patients were being diverted to Southend University Hospital.

"I know Windows XP has been an issue raised within the media".

Rob Whiteman, CIPFA chief executive said: "The NHS ransomware attack needs to be a stark reminder for all government organisations to ensure IT security is optimal, regularly reviewed and upgraded, and given the resources to match our reliance on digital systems".

"They were in for more than 10 hours on Sunday working to get our computers up-and-running". These alerts included a patch to protect their systems. "This guidance was also reissued on Friday following emergence of this issue".
