United States to renew sanctions waivers on Iran Wednesday

The Donald Trump administration waived nuclear-related sanctions on Iran today in accordance with the landmark nuclear deal while ripping the country over its ballistic missile program and human rights record. According to media reports, Fractur engaged in the sale and delivery of explosives to the Syrian government.

"This administration is committed to countering Iran's destabilizing behavior, such as Iran's development of ballistic missiles and support to the Assad regime", Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement later on Wednesday.

That was a relief to Mr Rouhani, who made the 2015 nuclear deal the centrepiece of his efforts to end Iran's isolation and rebuild its economy with foreign investment.

It is noted that the sanctions imposed against officials Morteza Fracture and Rahim Ahmadi.

The decision not to renew sanctions came just two days before Iran votes and may prove a boost for President Hassan Rouhani, who approved the nuclear deal and is seeking re-election.

Unnamed officials earlier told Reuters earlier that Washington had already noted Iranian officials that the waivers would remain in place.

After accusing Iran of "not living up to the spirit" of the deal, the new Republican president said in April that his administration was analyzing the JCPOA and would "have something to say about it in the not-too-distant future".

Under the 2015 deal, the US and other world powers eased sanctions after the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Iran had taken a series of steps to pull its nuclear program back from the brink of weapons capability.

In retaliation for the new USA sanctions, Iran said it had added nine American individuals and companies to its own list of 15 US companies for alleged human rights violations and cooperation with Israel, its archenemy.

On Thursday, Iran blasted the new bans and said it would retaliate by adding nine US individuals and corporations to its own sanctions list over human rights violations within the United States.

Mark Dubowitz, chief executive of the Foundation for Defence of Democracies non-profit policy group and an opponent of the Iran nuclear deal, argued that the Trump administration was pursuing a "waive and slap" approach that temporarily suspends some sanctions while imposing others.

Separately, the State Department said it might add new sanctions targeting Iran's human rights abuses, which also are not covered under the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The sanctions block any assets the individuals or companies may have in the USA and bars Americans and non-Americans from doing business with them.

The sanctions imposed on Iran for its ballistic missile program have targeted senior Iranian military officials in addition to an Iranian company and a network based in China that stands accused of supplying Iran with the wherewithal sufficient to produce ballistic missiles, said the US State Department.
