President Tayyip Erdogan told U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Washington this week that Turkey would act "without asking anyone" if it faced any sort of attack from the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, Turkish media reported on Thursday.

The incident was considered serious enough that Turkey's ambassador to the United States was summoned to the State Department on Wednesday to discuss it with Undersecretary Tom Shannon, the official said. John McCain, R-Ariz., called for the expulsion of Turkey's ambassador to the United States.

And Erdogan, speaking in Istanbul two days after meeting Trump, said he was putting Washington on notice that his forces won't hesitate to attack US -backed Kurds if they threaten Turkey. The U.S. says there's an ongoing investigation that will allow the U.S.

New video published Thursday shows Erdogan's black Mercedes sedan surrounded by agents as it sat parked near the demonstrations.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, the Republican chairman of the armed services committee, called for the Turkish ambassador to the United States to be thrown out of the country on Thursday. He added that "this kind of thing can not go unresponded diplomatically". He suggested that lawsuits should be filed if the responsible bodyguards can be identified. Washington voiced concern over the air strikes and said they harmed the coalition's fight against Islamic State. Ten days before Trump was sworn in, Flynn reportedly nixed an Obama administration plan to attack the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, Syria, with Kurdish forces, presumably because Turkey and the Kurds are enemies. He wrote that bodyguards with Erdogan on his official state visit to Washington "viciously beat multiple individuals, throwing them to the ground and kicking them in the head".

"We can not lift the rule of emergency unless everything reaches peace and welfare", Erdogan told a meeting of business leaders in Istanbul.

Two men were arrested at the scene, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department said Wednesday, according to the Associated Press, and police hope to pursue charges against the other assailants.

Turkey considers the People's Protection Units or YPG in Syria a terror organization an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which has waged a three-decade long insurgency against the Turkish state, seeking their own nation.

Trump and members of his Cabinet spoke about it during a meeting late Monday at the White House with Secretary of Defense James Mattis joining by video teleconference.

The PKK is considered a terror group by the USA and Turkey's Western allies.
