Washington unemployment rate drops to 4.6 percent

Washington state's unemployment rate is at its lowest since June 2007, after falling from 4.7 to 4.6 percent in April, according to the Employment Security Department (ESD). St. Johns County posted the lowest jobless figure on the First Coast at 3 percent in April, down from the March figure of 3.3 percent. On Friday, the U.S. Department of Labor said Colorado and OR reported the lowest unemployment rates since 1976. At the same time, new claims for Unemployment Insurance were 45,319 in April, compared with 42,786 in March and 46,821 in April of past year. The uptick came as more people returned to the labor market in search of work.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson's office reports the state added 11,000 jobs in April, and the labor force participation increased from the previous month. Some 3,700 jobs were lost in government in Florida last month, most concentrated in state and local jobs. The private sector has regained 92.7 percent or 103,500 out of111,700 jobs lost. Leisure and hospitality added 1,500 jobs and professional and business services was down 1,600.

Employment in Kentucky's construction sector for April 2017 was 4,000 higher than in April 2016.

For the past 10 years, the red line you see in the graph above, the line that represent's Flagler County's unemployment rate, has been the outlier. "Connecticut continues to trail the region and the country in job and economic growth". Employment was up by 14,832, while the number of unemployed increased by 2,450.

"Rising part-time employment is a natural feature of an economy undergoing structural change and as the Reserve Bank noted this month, part-time work is chosen by many people juggling responsibilities", he said.

Derek Jeter's No. 2 retired by Yankees in pregame ceremony
Carlos Beltran added an RBI double and Carlos Correa lifted a sacrifice fly as Houston improved to 11-3 in its last 14 games. On Sunday, the franchise retired the jersey number that was worn for 20 years by future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter .

Still, state labor economists emphasized that CT gained jobs steadily over the year.

In a year-over-year comparison (April 2016 to April 2017), nonfarm payroll employment in California increased by 236,700 jobs (a 1.4 percent increase). This is particularly welcome, because the construction sector was among the hardest-hit during the recession.

According to the same report, one of the reasons behind the jobless growth is that companies are increasingly turning to automation and digital processes "even as they pare other costs, including wage bills, to future-proof growth and profits in a competitive environment".

The unemployment rates for Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha have not been seasonally adjusted, so they can not be directly compared with the state unemployment rate.
