White House knew sacked adviser was under investigation

Following requests by multiple congressional committees for former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey's memos of conversations between himself and President Trump, the Senate Judiciary Committee is now requesting the White House turn over any of its any recordings of conversations between the two by May 24th.

The White House quickly fired back against Comey's memo, saying 'the President has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn'.

Late on Wednesday the Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the investigation into questions of Russian collusion.

Still another panel, the Senate Judiciary Committee, is also seeking documents.

Later, Flynn emerged as a sharp critic of Obama's handling of national security matters, while supporting Trump's long-shot run for the presidency.

"I just got a message from the president to stay strong", Flynn reportedly told his companions.

As for Comey, whom Trump fired last week, the FBI director wrote in a memo after a February meeting at the White House that the new president had asked him to shut down the FBI's investigation of Flynn and his Russian contacts, said a person who had read the memo.

Authorities said Russian Federation meddled in November's election to benefit Trump.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz said in a tweet Wednesday that he still hasn't spoken with Comey about testifying.

"Look at the way I have been treated lately, especially by the media", he said.

Following Comey's abrupt dismissal, Trump contradicted his communications staff on the reason for firing him and admitted it was partially because of how Comey was handling the Russian investigation, touching off obstruction of justices allegations. The existence of the memo was first reported Tuesday by The New York Times. Flynn had been kept on the job for 18 days after the acting attorney general, Sally Yates, had warned the White House that he could be subject to blackmail from the Russians because he had misled Pence.

Trump promised on the campaign trail to prevent Muslims from entering the USA, but his January 27 order to ban travelers from certain Muslim-majority countries was blocked by the courts, which said the United States constitution banned discrimination on religious grounds.

Asserting himself overseas with his customary disruptive panache, President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday jumped into the furor over President Trump's disclosure of classified information to Russian diplomats, declaring that nothing secret had been revealed and that he could prove it.

With the news of the Comey memo, Democrats have increased their talks about impeaching Trump. The House eventually passed it by a whisker, but the controversial act faces a tough battle in the Senate. Comey said he replied that "I agree he is a good guy" but said nothing to Trump about limiting the investigation.
