France's Macron to reshuffle government after parliament win

French President Emmanuel Macron is on course for a landslide victory in parliamentary elections that will complete his overhaul of national politics as the first voters cast their ballots overseas on Saturday.

The centrist party, La Republique En Marche, which was created previous year, clinched 361 seats out of 577 in the National Assembly, giving it an absolute majority following the final round of the parliamentary elections in France.

Sunday's turnout of about 44 percent was the lowest ever for a French legislative election, and about 10 percentage points below the previous record, a reminder that nearly half of the vote in April's first round of the presidential election went to candidates opposed to the open borders and free markets of the European Union that Macron favors.

Ms Le Pen said: "Its a scandal that our party that picked 7.6million votes in the first round of the presidential election and three million more in the second round, can not form a group in the French parliament".

After Sunday's vote, the number of female lawmakers is the highest ever at France's lower house of parliament, reaching 38.7 percent - up from 26.8 percent in the outgoing Assembly.

After four failed attempts to enter the National Assembly, recently defeated presidential candidate and National Front leader Marine Le Pen was finally elected as an MP in the far-right stronghold of Henin-Beaumont, northern France.

The centre-right Republican party will be the main parliamentary opposition, with 113 seats, while the Socialist party saw its vote share wiped out, retaining only 29 seats overall.

En Marche!'s victory was tempered by low turnout, with only 43 per cent of voters taking part.

Her political ally, Gilbert Collard who won his seat in the nation's southeast, said FN will need to seriously think about how the party is organised.

White House Plays Down Talk of Firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller
The CEO is Newsmax Media called Mueller "illegitimate" as a special counsel because the investigation itself has no basis. Trump would take such a drastic step, and White House officials said Mr. "Look who he is hiring".

Emmanuel Macron was visibly irritated last March at a news conference ahead of the first round of the presidential election.

Shortly after his election, Macron faced off against President Donald Trump in a six-second handshake and publicly criticized his American counterpart's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accords, inviting - in fluent English - American climate scientists and researchers to relocate to France.

Pollsters predict the party will see its strength in parliament fall from almost 300 seats to around 20 after their five years in power under president Francois Hollande.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated Macron on winning a "clear parliamentary majority" in elections Sunday, her spokesman said. His centrist Republic on the Move! party is expected to win more than 400 seats.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, the rightwinger chosen by Macron to lead the cabinet, said voters had chosen "hope over misery".

He says the party will have to rebuild from the top down, suggesting what he terms "the left" needs to change radically if it still wants to be a strong force in French politics.

Far-left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon's party won 17 seats, over the minimum of 15 needed to form a group, a tool that provides extra funds and speaking time.

Nationalist leader Marine Le Pen has won a seat in the National Assembly for the first time.
